info on two Raleighs
I recently came into two Raleighs:
A Racing USA Grand Prix Red and chrome and
a metalic orange Super Course.
The serial numbers have me stumped
The Grand Prix is N0750 with M something under the cable guides on the bottom
bracket housing.
The Super Course is N1F010B
It says on the seat tube "Made In Japan"
I am curious about the date of manufacture of these bikes etc.
Being new to Raleighs I would appreciate any help
Thanks,
Chuck

I'm not that good with Raleigh serial numbers, perhaps someone else will ring the bell. N could be Nottingham or Nippon (Japanese). If the headbadge has "Nottingham" on it, then it's British-built. Try

and

which are the only Raleigh serial number sources/explanations I know of.

Now, is the Super Course orange/chrome as the USA machine, or is it just orange? Sounds like a 1981 (N stands for Nottingham, but Raleigh was shipping these frames to Japan for final assy.) by the serial convention, but there's a line of machines made during the '83-85 Huffigh years (not '86 though) that had the same paint scheme as your Super Course, but featured semi-transparent lime green and copper paint. Just want to make sure you don't have one of those, for they're unbelievably hard to pin down info on.

Kurt,
On the Racing USA Grand Prix, The number is partially obscured by the cable guide on the bottom bracket tube. I will double check it.
The Super Course is solid orange.
Thank you very much for the help.
I tried the only two sources for serial numbers I could find and they weren't much help. (or I just didn't understand):-(
Thanks again,
Chuck
