Old vs New????????????????????
I recently purchased a vintage Guerciotti, campagnolo super record everything, modolo brakes, s. marco saddle, everything original. i was curious cause now im starting to have second thoughts on my purchase, my question is if i was to sell this and purchase a more modern bike, $700-$800 limit new or used, would i notice a considerably large difference in my performance or would it by minimal and not worth the trade? This is my only bike, and i try to ride as much as possible, advice? thx

I take it your Guerciotti is a steel frame, probably SLX or Columbus something and rides very smooth and tight.
In my opinion, you may see even less of a benefit/difference except in brifter shifting from a newer bike in the sub 1k range. A trek 1000 or similar would be a logical choice in upgrading (with stated funds) and personally I'd rather ride a steel beauty of top notch quality like you have. Campy record of yesteryear is still top notch stuff.....I have a 1991 Basso Lotto with campy record, same saddle as you, campy delta brks, yipsilon wheels with the best verdestein tires.....what a ride. Just my two cents:) |
Perhaps you could show us photos?
Have you thought about changing saddles? Are you wearing cycling specific clothing whilst riding, or are you wearing jeans? I agree with ThinLine, I doubt you would see much improvement with a modern bike, especially in what is really a lower end bike at your stated price range. East Hill |
