Binder Bolt Question

Hi all -

A quick question about replacing a seat tube binder bolt: where would be the best place to purchase one?

Like a fool, I left the bolt in the frame when it went off to the powder coater, they (or the person who does their sandblasting) did not return it when the bike was finished (and I didn't think to ask for it then...).

This is an 85/86 Fuji Design Series road bike with a 27.0 diameter - and the binder bolt has a really narrow profile. If worse comes to worse I'll source from Ace Hardware to get me riding again, but I'd like to have something that fits properly.

Any thoughts? Thanks for your time,

BDS

Is there any reason you haven't considered getting one at the bike shop?

Is this a "one sided" seat lug (some oldsters would call it "Dutch") where the bolt screws into a threaded lug eye on one side? If so, you can probably use a regular metric allen-head cap bolt, and it will probably be 6mm. I'd look for stainless steel. If it's a regular pinch bolt, you can find Taiwanese units from any shop who has a QBP catalog and orders from them, typically come in 2 lengths so pick the size you need.

I'm pretty sure loose screws has some of the "no name" ones for a couple bucks. Knowing the appropriate length can be critical. Some come in 17 mm lengths, while others in 22 mm, and quite possibly others could have been used as well.

I have purchased several of these generic bolts at various shops around town. I have had to cut them down on occasion, but this is a fairly simple task with a hack saw.

Excellent suggestions all around.

Thanks! The shop that did most of the build work did not have a the male/female bolt that would fit inside the frame. I'll look in some of the other shops around.
