Barn find- 1 of 4- Falcon San Remo
This is the first of 4 bike I have located. I bought the first 2. 85 Schwinn Tempo, fairly rough but should clean up nice.
The second one is a Falcon San Remo. I do not know the age but from what I searched the forums and internet it is pre 1973, because it is a cottered crank. It is 531 main tubes the serial # is x 248 98. it has campy rear drop outs, Campy Velox rear derailer, Huret front. It does not appear to be repainted it is gold ( about the color of the mid 60's mopars). Any Ideas about what year the falcon is?
Ps pictures to follow, and My wife has not noticed the new bikes. I will have to tell her because both may be keepers

What brand of cottered crank? The older ones (early 60's) came with Williams cottered cranks.

Not sure if this will help too much, but VeloBase.com has a listing for the Velox rear derailleur with the year 1971. Not sure how long the model ran before or after that date, but don't think it was for too long.

I have no idea what crank it is. There are holes for a chain gaurd or Pie Plate , but other than that the only mark I can find is 52 inclosed in a circle. It looks like it is double stamped one set of 52 outlining the other. Velobase is one cool site. I will visit it more tonight after I get the kids in bed. I will add photos also

You will definitely enjoy the Tempo. I have one, and it's younger sibling the Prelude. The Tempo has a little nicer workmanship, but both are very nicely made, and ride nicely to boot. Looking forward to pics of the
Falcon. I have an orange one I'm lusting after, but thankfully it's going nowhere soon. I've asked a price, and it seems reasonable if it's actually 531 like the owner says.,,,,BD

Here are photos of the bikes. I have not cleaned them at all. The falcon is on the work stand trying on nicer wheels. The Tempo may replace the 89 Traveller

I had a Falcon San Remo Mod 76 - from 1972/73. This is a bit older. I think there was a model with a cottered crank. But the rear derailler is definitely older as another poster suggests. I am 90% sure it was repainted at some point (unless the color is off from your picture).

That Falcon head badge is really something else.
it's so elaborate that it does not look like it came from the UK. More in the style of what you see on Japanese bikes of the period.
