Paramount Questions...Part 2

Since the big dogs hijacked my original thread re Paramount frame, may I conclude from their very useful initial remarks:

Fork is non-standard/replacement?

Braise-on pump peg is non-standard?

Probably it is a frame/fork/rack repaint but may be standard Paramount color (Sierra Brown)?

C7020 is a proper Paramount serial number indicating 1970 model year?

It is not P-10; more likely a P-15?

Frame is indeed a Paramount?

Thanks all.

Damn, I'm sorry. I was probably as responsible for the hijack as anyone.

Yes, the fork is almost surely a replacement that doesn't have the same crown as the original. Other things like steerer tube length and rake should also be suspect because it isn't original to the bike.

The brazed pump peg was not standard.

It's definitely a repaint because the seat mast decal is wrong and the chrome is painted over (possibly covering pitted chrome). I don't believe it's Sierra Brown, but it may be.

C7020 is a Paramount serial number (different from other Schwinn models) and indicates the frame was built in March, 1970.

It is not a P10 because the P10 model wasn't available until '73. It might be a P13; we haven't established whether or not the 1970 P13 had eyelets. It could also be a P15.

The serial number and other clues (Prugnat lugs, etc.) indicate it is almost certainly a Paramount.

Waterford has an excellent history of the Paramount HERE. Click on each link, top to bottom, on the left margin of the page for different time periods of Paramount history. Richard Schwinn is a partner in Waterford Precision Cycles, and is the son of Edward Schwinn, Sr., who was the son of Frank W. Schwinn, who was the son of Schwinn Bicycle Company founder Ignaz Schwinn. Richard managed the Schwinn plant in Mississippi during the eighties and early nineties, and bought the Waterford facility out of the 1993 bankruptcy with his business partner Marc Muller, who had been the chief Paramount engineer for Schwinn from 1981 until the bankruptcy in '93.

Sorry! We tried to be helpful but then became overwhelmed by Paramount fever. The rest of BF-C&V is laughing at all of us P-Fools.

Listen, guys, I completely understand your enthusiasm and all is forgiven. I appreciate your help and was very interested in all the continuing comments.

I know you all are gentlemen and intended no harm or neglect.

On the other hand, if you feel at all still guilty for your shameful treatment of me you can be absolved if you'll help me locate a 54 cm Paramount frame/fork for my son.

Grins.

Since East Hill needs a 48cm, I'll keep my eye out for a 54cm for your boy! As you can see from the one I ride, 54cm would be on the small side for me.

Here's one that I believe has been miss-meassured. It's only a G plus a Ben Franklin to ship, from a second time seller. I don't know?

Yes, that one looks larger than 54cm, more like a 56, I'd say. Too large.

Also, I prefer a frame only, if possible. I'll be patient.

Thanks, Pastorbob.
