I'll probably donate it or perhaps put it on Craigslist as a free bike. Hopefully eitherway it will make it to a good home.

Brings back fond memories of my first multi-speed bike. 1971 Schwinn Varsity,
Brown with full chrome fenders. I got over 30+ years of good service out of it
before sending it on its way.

I rescued these two old hardtails that were no longer wanted.

One is a Bianchi Nyala, missing a front wheel. Came with Suntour XCM and Dia Compe cantis.
The other is a Trek 830 Antelope, full Shimano, neglected, rusted. That one I stripped and gave it a fresh coat of primer and rattle can deep blue.
Both are now residing at my girlfriend's place where they are used to take her boys out on some very memorable biking weekends. The joy on their faces makes the personal effort to restore them all worth it.

http://bikeforums.net/%5BIMG%5Dhttp:....jpg%5B/IMG%5DIt was in the trash and the name called out to me. A bike with a fake vinyl 'denim' seat and a sticker that proclaims it is 'The Dude'. I threw on a set of 26 1 3/8 tires that I had on hand, used to to commute from my parking garage to my office building for a few weeks and then sold it to a student for $20.00

I picked up 4 Schwinn's last week from CL for $45. A Suburban with fenders and generator set. A Traveler with 4130 cromo frame. Ladies World Tourist with Shimano FFS, and an older Varsity. It has a Brooks Pro saddle that has been neglected, but is still in decent, restorable shape.

histbuff1190 11-21-07 07:48 PM

ok... now im REALLY in need of a bike. ripped the 3 speed hub off the frame of my custom the other day, and now the sturmey archer hub on my raleigh is beginning to lock up which puts me out of a bike pretty quick. looking for sturmey archer parts if anyones found some recently :( would also really make my holidays if i could find a classic styled frame, something full sized thats not just straight lines. something beautiful like 60's schwinns. really been wanting to do a custom job that didnt start with a bland frame for a change.

Nice Raleigh -- I don't understand. . .

. . . why these bikes get tossed. This is an early 80s American Raleigh Olympian Mixte. I think it's a beautiful bike, post clean-up.

It's looking a good home...free...;-)

My first bike was a black 5 speed Ross Apollo. I loved that bike, wish I would have saved it. I always think if I see one like the one I had when I was a kid, I would pick it up.

This one I saved from a co-worker throwing it away. Not a classic but a nice steel mountain bike. I like this bike better then my mountain bike. I gave this one to my Father in-law, I just don't have room for all these bikes. I only keep the ones I really really want.

roseskunk 11-22-07 11:48 AM

what a nice little trek! why on earth would anyone want to throw something like that away?

histbuff1190 11-22-07 03:45 PM

ooh... i feel lucky today :-D looking for a saturn mirror in a salvage yard for a friend of mine and i stumble across a pickup truck full of old bikes! yard owner doesnt want them so grabbed the sturmey archer parts i needed and got a few other odd bits including a frame i like, will put up some pics over the weekend (saw some bikes ive never heard of...). Happy Thanksgiving folks!!!

I've posted this bike on here before, it is a Holdsworth Monsoon 1960, my friend found it in a skip the front half and forks had been burn't in a fire.
It turned out to be too big for him but just right for me :)
I stripped it and gave it to Mario Vaz in South East London who used to spray for Holdsworth and he did a great job reproducing the original colours.

Dump Finds at their Cruddiest

Stopped by the town dump yesterday after being away for a week and finally hit some pay dirt--- well at least some dirt. :o

First, an AMF Road Master with a neat front fender, rear rack, and a few other bits worth recycling.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...RoadMaster.jpg

And a '73 Kool Lemon Varsity. This is my second Kool Lemon dump find. The first was shipped to imabeliever this summer and you can find that picture in Post #98 in this thread. This one has fenders and I believe the paint is in better shape. Also the "Toy Castle" seat tube sticker is perfect for Top506. Don't you just love the "cottage cheese" tires?

I see a rocking horse, a Penny Farthing, and something? on the diagonal. Does the top really have an American flag on it? And what's on the left side of the badge that we can't see?

Very cool badge. Much nicer than the tyres! Obviously everyone in town waited for you to come back:) .

There's nothing on the left side. I believe the bottom "something" is a rocket. Check out the Peace symbol in the little flower to the right of the castle.

I would not have noticed that if you had not mentioned it. Time to do some research on Toy Castle!

I think I need a yellow bike, too. Do yellow bikes ever come with outlined lugs?

Only if they are not Electro Forged or Fillet Brazed Schwinns lacking lugs. ;)

East Hill 11-27-07 11:11 PM

^^^^
I ask because I can't remember ever seeing a yellow bike with outlined lugs (what colour would the outlining be?), but I know there must be someone out there who's got such a thing :) .

Gold, black or white...personally I would use a bright blue:D I have a bright yellow Moby (well what is left of one) and IIRC the lugs were done in white.

Aaron:)

pastorbobnlnh 11-28-07 04:15 AM

Scooper's Kool Lemon Paramont has red outlining on the lugs. It happens to be the reverse inspiration for my Dr.Deltron painted Super Sport.

Lucky07 11-28-07 08:35 AM

Found on the street: A brown Fuji Team frame. It's a bit banged up, but it's a lugged, double butted steel frame. There is a bit of surface rust in the bb area, but it seems ok. Threads look good. Not sure of the vintage, so pls chime in on the era or year if you know. Pics aren't great, but you get the idea.

I'm going to build it up as a single speed. I figure it'll make a great short distance commuter.
