I may have posted in the past..but here is a new shot as it stands today.
If anyone cares.. it is a Raleigh Team Pro 531 tubing 1986ish, Campy Centaur stuff, amber shellaced yellow cloth tape, brooks, and too much free time on my hands.

If it wasn't for those rims I think it'd look pretty slick.

wha?? what about the plastic platform clipped on my mtn bike pedals? jk. Yeah, I agree with you on the rims. I was looking for used centaur hubs/wheelset and found this for a great price on craigs.

If the rims were swapped out, I suppose they might bug me.. but unlikely.

It's a good point well made. The chrome forks are crying out for some silver componentry, so the wheels + group set and especially cranks are spot-on. The seat post sets it all off a treat.

Those pedals really make that Bottecchia. I think it needs a Campy aero post, though.

Anyone got a 26.8 campy post? The wheels are nucleons. Nice to have a 9s campy cluster on there.

Those pedals were tricky to find- I actually had them before the bike. Think I pestered robbietunes for them when he got them as part of a package pedal deal.

Absolutely agree. I'm wandering, what type of handlebar is that ?

No, that will take it over the edge and into Cipo/Pirata territory. Matching Briko's are also mandatory with this bike.

I think there's enough yellow on it, but I do dig the pedals...PP296's?

Darned if I can determine just what color I'd use up top, though. If the saddle fits the caboose, best to leave it be, maybe. The frame is almost too stunning to try and compliment. I'd probably go "accent" with a black saddle that has some red trim pieces (SI Flite CX) and then wrap in black Lizardskin and use red accents on the bar ends and finish tape. Polished or alloy cages, Elite Ciussi come to mind, or something with thinner wires. CampMor has wire cages with black buttons for 5.99/each.

Going to be trying my first build with a retro frame and modern gruppo. Picked up this 653 Rourke. I'm undecided between black centaur and black finishing kit, or going for the retro look of polished Athena 11 speed and silver finishing kit. What do you guys reckon?

Silver Athena all the way. I don't really like bright blue bikes with black kit, leave that for the "santa bikes".

Beautiful framesets require very nice gruppos.

Silver Athena is never a bad choice!

I would like to see more detail shots of this frameset please.

Love the color.

I have a Walter Croll frameset built from 653. Little flexy and quite forgiving.

Great for gravel....... Imho

Ask and you shall receive!

Danke!

Fab frameset and the color is rich.

This one deserves it's own build thread.

Pretty please.......

Also, welcome to the forum.

A very nice opener.

Unfortunately it's going in to storage for 6 months as I'm going to New York for a little while for work.

The planning starts now, however!

Plenty of time then to choose parts for a top notch build.

It would relieve a lot of winter boredom.

Yep, Athena and A23/silver Records!

That would be tasty.

I'll look forward to this one.

Which reminds me to get in touch with Thirdgenbird (Casey) and see if he would like to build another bicycle this winter.......

Got as far as ambrosio zenith hubs, undecided on rims. You reckon a23s?

also need advice on a stem and other finishing kit. Cinelli 1a? Any recommendations for silver bars with double grooves? I'm leaning towards white bar tape.
