I swapped the saddle to a Fizik Arione, got a long nut for the front brake, and I'm building a set of 6400 hubs up to run 8/9 of 10 on 126mm. I found the splay on the Crit's is actually pretty comfortable.

Love it, but those wheels look awful busy. Remove the decals from those wheels and it will be even better.

This is one of my favorite threads. I've got an 83 Trek 600 that would be a perfect candidate for this type of build. I've started getting the parts together for it. Maybe I'll have everything by next winter.

Finally found the right place to post pictures of my mid 80's Raleigh Professional.
The colour is original and I really love it, I sold a Team Pro in classic red and black colours to get it.
Difficult to photo, even though it looks orange it's actually red on yellow, from the front it's red and from the back yellow.

Two guys suit up with paint guns.
One stands in front.
One stands in back.
They get to arguing.....

New wheels coming soon, these are my commuting wheels from my flatbar to get me rolling. Ugly, but tough!

What a great bike. Those seat stay caps remind me of Jan Legrand, who used to build for Raleigh (among others like Presto). He also built the team bikes of Ti Raleigh and Panasonic under the reign of Peter Post. I don't know if this one could be of his hand as well or the other builders copied his signature seat stay caps.

I've seen quite a few Ilkeston Raleigh's with these seat caps so I've always assumed other builders used this style.
Having said that, the bike was bought in Holland, the original purchaser on Retrobike bought the frameset on Dutch eBay and it has a sticker from a Dutch bike shop on the seat tube.
It's unusual because Ilkeston frame numbers are normally SBxxxx unless it was built for a team rider when it would have a set of initials and a year.
This bike has both an SB number plus a set of initials and year.
The only other frame I've seen in these colours had a different set of initials so they could have been destined for a team rather than a private buyer, judging by the condition if they were for a team they weren't ever used.

I really like the colors of the last 2. That Raleigh is smoldering! The RB-2 is one of those in between colors that change and really shine when the sun hits it.

Got some new wheels (sourced from a certain robbietunes) on a borderline old frame- has DT shifter bosses though.

A big thanks to Robbietunes for selling me his beautiful Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra. I knew the frameset was nice, but it was more better than I expected. Just finished putting it together, and I have to wait til friday morning to ride it. But I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I do like an orange Merckx! I hope you don't mind me pointing out though, your cable stops are on the wrong way round. If you have the barrel thingy on the bottom side it gives the cable a nice parallel line to the down tube...

So I figure there is no point in reviving the build thread for this bike as most of the group I bought for it (Athena 11) is now going on a De Rosa frame that I recently snagged. Instead, it has 8-speed campy Avanti that I transfered from another bike and other than needing new cables it is running really great. I work right by the Hudson and snapped this shot on my way in this morning.

Here are pics of the one that 'got away' - a 1989 Serotta Nova Special X with Campy Chorus except the levers were Record.

I ran a newer front rim because the Record Tubular rims had a flat spot in it.

Missing this bike I have now sourced another frame/fork and am going to outfit it with all new Campy... here is the Quattro Assi frame/fork:

This is an '82ish Rob Stowe frame I bought from the Colonel (tip o' the hat) almost two years ago. I finally built it up, with my usual mish-mash of parts, to take to Cirque. Gary Prange of SSSink checked it out, told me he made the decals for Stowe, and said Stowe is thinking about picking up the torch again. It's great to see some of these older-school builders getting back into framebuilding---Mark DiNucci and Tim Neenan particularly come to mind. It'd be interesting to see what Rob Stowe would build if he came back into the game. Click to embiggen...
