Lightning strikes twice! This is actually a 54cm Expert I found locally. The 56cm frameset is still waiting. I thought white accents would look best, but now I'm not sure. The triple crank will probably be replaced by something silver, either a double or compact.

I love your bikes. That cyclocross looks ready for anything. Damn can you actually use regular pre-cut brake/shifter cables? or do you have to go to the LBS where they have spools of tubing/cables?
I get my cables from walmart in a $4 kit with enough cables to do a whole bike. My LBS tried to sell me cable for $10/foot

Here's one for you guys, although the frame no longer belongs to me.

1985 Masi Nuovo Strada with Chorus/Record and modern wheels.

Here it is in its natural habitat in C&V wheel mode

Man, security at that bike prison is high, 2 layers of fence. At least they have benches for visitors.

Thanks, and those are indeed the ergos you pointed out to me. They have been serving me well, and they are now on their third bike of mine, which I can't post here, it's that newfangled carbon!

10-sp carbon Record? 1%-er!
Actually, they couldn't be with a more capable wrench. That would be a cool mode.

ive got a full carbon easton ec90sl fork with a 1in steerer to go with it. my vision is a decent quality steel frame dressed with 100% modern parts. ideally it would be white. i cant help but think the black carbon fiber would contrast it perfectly.

edit:
that colnago in the background would be perfect. the size may even be right.

Here's my '81 Voyageur 11.8 with 8sp Record Ergos and Chorus derailleurs. I'll probably exchange the FD for a Nuovo Record. It's working great with the 7sp HG freewheel. Bar plugs and proper photos to come soon. Great thread!

Shiny and classy!

Are those Parigi-Roubaixs on that beauty?

Gives off a great vibe like one of my favs, this Chris Bishop.

I like your bar tape choice more though.

Indeed. On this ride (just after dark) I got what must be my 7th or 8th flat on the pair.

I'll add that Ergos with randonneur bars is damned comfortable.

That Bishop is niiiice.

Finally finished my new ride.
1986 Merckx Corsa Extra, with a modern flair.
I kept the original Dura Ace gruppo, including the tubulars, and had the painter paint the fork with correct decals as well, just in case I ever want to take her back to stock.

Full Sram Red group. 52/36 compact crankset, steel cage pro/race/team/whateveritis front derailler.
Winwood carbon fork
Chris King headset
Zipp Post, stem, bars
Spinergy Stealth PBO Wheelset (until I can convince my wife that I NEED 404's on it)
Continental GP4000 tires.

Rock It, Rocket, amazing.

Has anyone noticed the the upgraded older bikes are really starting to make some of the modern bikes look, well, ..tacky?

Not to mention the fact that people are turning heads over retros vs. the new ultralight carbons. I thought a guy on a 14.5 lb Sworks was going to crash into traffic after rubbernecking my ride the other day.

It's the frames and workmanship people notice. Some of the carbon frames are quite sexy and will one day be classics in their own right, but most are downright ugly, IMHO.

To me, steel diamond frames represent the quintessential, possibly eternal, bicycle design. The timeless grace and beauty of a classic frame is enhanced by modern drivetrains and components, and reflect the aesthetics of their builders.

That being said, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

At least he's got some taste.

I've got three bikes - a pedestrian (but still nice) 2011 Specialized Allez, a lovely 2010 Look 585 Optimum with handbuilt wheels and an Ultegra/DA mix drivetrain, and a celeste '97 Bianchi Trofeo that I bought for $300 off CL. Which one gets the looks and compliments? The Bianchi. Go figure.

Found on Craigslist for $75 on the same day I got my job offer, couldn't say no. Since then, changed the bars, shifters, saddle, cassette, tires, front rim, tape, and seatpost. It was in almost original condition, the previous owner had replaced the RD and rear rim. Green bar tape was the factory color so I decided to keep it that way.
