I can FINALLY contribute to this thread!! Had a doozy of a time tracking down the lockring for this thing.

1988 Bianchi Strada LX. Frame was stripped and powder coated, new decals from velocals. A hodge podge of campy components, my goal was to keep it all Italian (although the frame itself is of Taiwanese origin I believe).

I agree with [MENTION=340794]Dfrost[/MENTION] that the black components look great with the chrome. As you know, I made the same decision with my Pinarello because I didn't think mere silver components could stand beside the gleaming chrome. Your black headset really pops. I should have done that.

I'm contemplating the TT water bottle holder for my Grand Jubilé. Clamp on water bottle cages just don't look right anywhere. So far I'm getting by with water bottles in the handlebar bag.

I had the good fortune to add this 1996 Moots to my small stable. When it came to me the Reynolds fork was black, red and white...and ugly. I sent it out to be refinished to match the bare titanium. Mounted a SRAM Rival 22 group plus Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheelset that may look familiar to those that remember my GT National Team bike. This is my first "keeper" in titanium, as I am very very impressed with this bike. Rides like it's a new frame...amazing.

That's nice. I think "old" titanium is an overlooked winner, for ride quality, durability, and style. :thumb:

I would like to know your thoughts when it comes to the handlebar position. I see no point in having drop bars if the bars are positioned in this manner. How do you reach the brakehandles when in the drops?

I don't have any problems reaching the brakes from the drops with the bars positioned like this. I did a lot of repositioning to find what works well both on the hoods and in the drops.

'83 Shogun 300
 

Just got an 83 Shogun 300 from CL for $80. The bike is in great condition. New tubes and tires are on the way. A little back story...I just started riding in May. I have a 97 Trek 800 Mountain Track that I've owned since new and in all that time I maybe put 20 miles on it. Since May I've put about 600 miles on it! I've changed a few things to make it more compatible with the riding I do. I'm realizing that I'm trying to turn it into more of a road bike. So I bought a road bike to see if I'm a closet road biker. I did my research on this Shogun in reverse. I bought it first, then Googled it. Seems I did ok as I'm not seeing much negative about them. Aside from the new rubber, I ordered some handlebar tape. Everything runs, turns, shifts well (at least on the rack) so I plan no other "upgrades". I can't wait to put a few miles on the new tires and see how this old girl runs!
Unfortunately , every time I try to load a pic it either says wrong file extension, even though it says it accepts .png...or when I try a jpeg, it says upload failed. Maybe someone could help me out. What am I doing wrong? I'm using my iPhone, maybe that's the problem.
Anyway, I'll upload pics of the Trek too if I figure out how.

Here's my small contribution to this thread, which I have become addicted to ��

I got this '94 Park Pre 925R frame for $75 from eBay. Had it sandblasted and clearcoated again; the decals were sourced through Gil from retrodecals.co.uk and they came out beautifully done.

The groupset is Campy Athena with carbon crankset and ergos; the wheels are low profile custom carbon tubulars on Veloflex Carbon tubs. This frame is very comfortable and light for its age and I actually like it better than other modern carbon frames I have had!

Thanks, Andy! I had the same thought regarding silver components and chrome. If the components aren't as gleaming as the frame's chrome, then it, to me, becomes this mess of varying lusters with no definition. The original headset was silver, but one of the cups had a bit of rust. I decided to replace it with an Origin 8 one I had laying around (had used it on the Peloton briefly a few years ago). The O8's stack height is about 3mm taller than the original one, and thus the top cap nut (or whatever it's called) isn't threaded on as much as I'd like. Thankfully, the wedge profile of the quill stem to threadless stem adapter keeps the nut snug and from getting any loosening ideas.

I was also able to find a used Campy triple FD of some vintage variety, which will help the matching. The lever arm employed by the shifter/shift cable is longer than the Ultegra one, which should decrease the cable tension, especially in the big ring where any out of the saddle movement causes a partial downshift.

That is beautiful. I can appreciate a bike like that when I see it but I would have to pay someone to keep it looking like that if it was mine. I just don't have the eye and patience to keep a bike looking that good.

This color pops and seems it can be seen coming from 50 miles away. Lovin the color alot.
