~$67.95 to ship wheels (or en entire big order) I believe.

Good to know.

I assumed they wouldn't, but maybe I don't have to use my courier service for a set of these Fulcrum Fives.

Khamsins are nice wheels as well, and plenty good for most mortals like myself.

Looks like they do ship wheels to the US now. I was pretty certain I read on their site that they did not some time back. Perhaps it was just the specific set I was looking at.

We've told them about you.

Sweet.

Bring her on! :)

Harlan 03-01-12 09:55 PM

Robbie, are we both bringing out 8s Campy projects at the same time then? :)

You both would make great strippers. enough teasing already!

My Guerciotti got some new bars and shifters. I wanted alloy blades but didn't want to step down to Veloce or pay an additional $100 for older centaur.

I have a '70s Fuji with a Campy friction shift system....is it possible to upgrade to an indexed shift system that will work with the old derailleur??

70's Campy? Nope. They did have Campy than ran friction that then ran into synchro and ergo, but that was 7 and 8 speed in the late 80's and 90's iirc.

The silver braid cable housings? I was looking at those and sad they were out.

Consider throwing some spacers in the neck of the adapter to make it look cleaner.

It looks a little sloppy because some of them are mismatched and the top 2 are staggered, but I will replace those with 1 piece... you get the idea.

I actually already bought some I was hoping would be the right size, but were too big. I was thinking 1 inch, since it's a 1 inch threaded. Haven't been able to find actual 22.2 spacers. Any recommendations?

These should fill the gap between your stem and spacers, right?

You actually use the the 1 1/8 spacers. Get one long one rather than mutliple pieces (unlike how I did it). The clamp for your thomson stem is 1 1/8. You want that size so the tiny bit of adapter showing will hold the spacer in place.

buldogge 03-03-12 10:31 PM

Machine a mono-spacer with 1" ID and 1.250" OD, or maybe one tapered from 1.25 to 1.125".

Thanks, but the spacers I got are actually 1" ID, and they're too big. 22.2 mm (stem diameter) is only about 0.87", so the 1" spacers are loose. Could use some kind of shim, but that's getting to be a lot of work just to add some extra weight to the bike. Anyone come across 22.2mm spacers?

Ah, I can see how that would work. Though to be honest, seems like money, time, and weight going toward a pretty minor cosmetic improvement. Unless I'm missing a performance benefit somewhere?

I'll probably get some flack for this, but why don't you guys switch to threadless forks, and increase the stiffness, and decrease the weight? I did this with my old Schwinn Traveler, and it saved nearly a pound, and I didn't even buy that nice or light of a fork. It also is 100x's stiffer, and rides a lot better. I can see some of you want to match your fork to your frame, but you could always just paint the new fork to match.

Speaking solely for myself, most of the charm in updating an older frame with newer components comes from retaining the ride characteristics of the older frame while updating other stuff we didn't like so much back in the day. It improves the performance of the bike, but doesn't necessarily maximize it, while maintaining the period look/feel.

No flack on that one from me.

I've gone that route in the past, and I'll do it again.

The current project I am working on, a Chris Kvale, was designed for a threaded fork though. I love the way they look and handle.

I can't imagine a better overall road feel than this frame, as I have another that is pretty similar except for steel choice.

They work perfectly for me.

So, I guess end of story on that one.

If I wanted to save a pound or two, I'd stop going to Ted Cook's ribs in south Minneapolis every week. :)
