I know this is borderline between vintage and new, but I was wondering if this will fit the cassette
body of my Trek wheels I found today. Hub is a Shimano RX100, and from what I've read they were all 7 speed. I believe the wheels to be bone stock take off wheels that sat in someone's closet for quite a while.

Will it fit? Looks like it might?,,,,BD

Sounds like something didn't attach, cuz I don't see the alternate wheels. Sheldon has rx100 listed as 97 which would make it 8-9-10 speed compatible and 130 width. I've had a 7 speed cassette (shimano) and I did a freehub transplant to bring it up to 8, where it happily carries an older xtr cassette on my 82 schwinn voyager 11.8. How can I help? What was the question again?

What alternate wheels? More or less looking for a 13/28 cassette or thereabouts to fit on this hub. 8-9-10 speeds have no use here, to be brutally honest. It's as flat as flat can be. Anything over 7 speed is a waste of time Yes, the spacing is 130, just measured it with the trusty digital caliper.,,,,BD

I had a RX100 rear hub and used a Nashbar 7 speed cassette successfully on it. I thought mine was 126mm, though. Did someone add spacers on yours?

That is the OEM setup on my wife's Bianchi Eros. It has 130 spacing, RX100 hubs and 7-speed 13-28 cassette with a spacer (a locknut outboard of the cone nut) on the non-cassette end of the axle.

I have reason to believe, however, that RX100 came out earlier than '97. I bought the aforementioned Bianchi as a Valentine's Day gift in 1995.

I have a late 80's Panasonic with that groupo. It is a seven speed setup. Pretty sure it is the original groupo.

Yes, I had them stock on a '93 Cannondale. I'm 99.9% certain mine were 126mm, though, as were most 7 speed road hubs.

+1, I'll validate that. My 93 Bianchi Campione has a RX100, 7 speed hub. It's on a 126 frame.
Bikedued, I'm trying to remember if it was the RX100 freehub on this bike or a Shimano freehub from another bike, I think it was the RX100. I changed cassettes with a Shimano cassette and it was slightly loose. Per Rev.Chuck, I added one of those thin spacers that is typically found between the second and third gears. I placed the spacer on the freehub first, then placed the cassette on the hub. It worked fine. As I recall, I posted on the Mechanics forum and Rev.Chuck explained that Shimano had variations to their 7 speed freehubs and to just add the spacer and go. Your RX100 may be from a different year and not have this small variation.

Bikedued, if it IS a 8 speed freehub, you can add a spacer at the end and still go 7 speed. As for the 130mm spacing, that may be a little more problematic as you may have to replace the axle with a 126 so that the QR will work if your frame is 126. I'm probably saying stuff you are well aware of, but jes sayin'.

On the freehub side I can't really tell if there's a spacer between the cone and locknut. I think there isn't. On the opposite side, it looks like there's two washers between the cone and locknut. They add up to around 3.4 to 3.5 MM. I set the caliper to 4.0, and it definitely wasn't that wide. Maybe they went by total width of the hub, rather than the width of the spacers.,,,,BD

BD...its always total width. Regardless, that cassette will work. RX100 debuted in 1990.

I did some playing around. I had a 7 speed hyperglide on another wheel. I slid all the parts on, and threaded the lockring down. No dice, it must be an 8 speed body. I took still another cassette and ground off the rods holding it together. I dropped one of the loose spacers on the body, and reinstalled the cassette, bingo! The spacing from the small ring to the locknut seems to be fine, so the chain shouldn't catch on the dropout. The space on the back side of the cassette looks a little funny, but I don't believe it's too far out to really ruin the chain line. It might actually help some.,,,,BD

Wouldn't an 8 speed already be out that far anyway? I barely had to adjust the RD at all, to add travel for the biggest ring. Likewise for the spacing, I barely spread the dropouts and it slipped right in. It works just fine in the driveway, about to go on the road, if I can dodge the subwoofermobiles long enough.,,,,BD

It worked fine, and made the Helicomatic setup look sad by comparison. No more chattering and hovering.,,,,BD
