I looked at it today, decided to install the DA FD, which doesn’t look as good, but it’s DA. Also decided that Vittorias with skin wall and yellow stripe seemed to lighten the tone. While I was at it, dropped the bottles cages in lieu of a solo “berry” anodized. Bike looks better, Shakedown ride this week.

Nice! Love that color.

What bottle cage clamps are those? Part of the cage itself? Looks great.
Thanks. These are the clamps. They are separate clamps, and I recall buying them separately as well, but I have seen this combination before, so they might well be the correct ALE clamps.

A 72 Raleigh Sports I exumed from the cellar when we moved to our house. Guessing it had been there 30 some years since that's when the husband died.

Bikes: Too many or not enough, depending on the day.

Amazing stuff. A lot of hard work done on some of these.
I have a few "projects" on the go. Hope to post some photos soon.

Bikes: Trek 800 x 2, Schwinn Heavy Duti, Schwinn Traveler, Schwinn Le Tour Luxe, Schwinn Continental, Cannondale M400 and Lambert, Schwinn Super Sport

1980 Schwinn Continental

Below is a 1980 Schwinn Continental. I got it in rather rough condition having been left outside in the elements. There were vines growing through the spokes and on other parts of the frame in addition to rust and general deterioration.

The frame was stripped and repainted. It is clear here where the weld was made between the head tube assembly and the top tube.

For a Candy Apple paint job a base paint must be painted first. For Schwinn paint, it was silver.

Here is the bike as of today. I just finished relacing the wheels with stainless steel spokes.

No bike is ever finished. I would like to get a different pair of pedals. MKS touring are my preference but finding them with 1/2" threading has been difficult. And a black Brooks B17 or Flyer saddle when the intersection of money and opportunity align better for me. Now, I just enjoy riding it.

Great job, that's what I call dedication.

Schwinn's translucent colors were called Flamboyant.

Did you use red oxide primer?

I would check MKS factory website for 1/2in. and SimWorks as well, they seem to have more obscure stuff.

Thanks merziac . Yes, I used Rustoleum red primer. Whenever I paint a (Chicago built) Schwinn it is the primer that I use since that is what Schwinn used.

Thanks for the tip on SimWorks. MKS has a plastic composite G-6000 pedal with a 1/2" spindle. However, the composite pedals wouldn't be my first choice. The original pedals work well enough for now. I removed them and tipped them up to oil and grease them. Those pedals add to the Varsity/Continental sound. But they are stamped steel. So, they become the next item to be upgraded.

I picked up a Brooks B17 on your alert a few months ago. But it went to another bike. Thanks.

You're welcome.

I chased this a couple of weeks ago, I'm sure I saw some Stream and or Touring 1/2in. pedals, of course I can't find them now, Sinworks had something to do with it.

The BM-7's do come in 1/2in., you could trim off the cage to get them close or I bet you could buy a pair of Touring and a pair of BM-7 and trade the spindles, then sell or find a use for the 9/16ths BM-7's.

From: 700 Ft. above sea level.

Bikes: Not as many as there were awhile ago.

OK, this isn't something usually seen in C&V but it IS a 1987 so it's old enough and if you look at "C&V" as "Confusing & Vile"........

1987 Dahon Stowaway folding bike. They're kind of goofy looking but this thing is a blast to ride and with the 7 speed, 170mm cranks and 53t chainwheel you can get it rolling pretty good, maybe too good for 20 inch wheels LOL.
