Hi. I have an old Schwinn Paramount ser. K728. Got it in 1975 used and over the years has become a "Frankenbike" with some non-orig. repair parts. I am now going to replace worn/broken parts with the closest things I can come to original. Here is my question. It now has a TA 3 spoke crank on it. I Put this on years and years ago. If I remember correctly, I thought it had a steel crank that said Paramount on it when I got the bike. It looked cheap and I got the TA unit for 20 bucks so I put it on. Anyway, Most of the other stuff says Campagnolo or Campagnolo Record or Campagnolo Nuovo Record. Is that the proper equipment this bike came with? Can someone give me the precise description of what crankset this bike likely came with when new, and how I might obtain a replacement?? I suspect ebay is probably the best place. Thanks. Welcome. You've come to a great place to help you with your Paramount. There are many fans who post and help out here.

First, you need to take pictures and post them. Use Photobucket or another hosting site for best quality. A picture of the entire bike, close-ups of any decals, components, hubs, headset, dropouts, lugs and seat stays at the seat post are some of the most helpful. Use the icon box with the mountains and sun to link your pictures.

Second, a steel "Paramount" scripted crankset and such a short serial number point to an older, rarer Paramount. (See: https://waterfordbikes.com/site/company/para_dating.php) Your serial number could point to October 1967, but I don't believe Schwinn was using a steel crank at that point, only a Campagnolo Record. But listing your derailleurs as Nuovo or Record does place it in the late '60s.

Has any one seen a late '60s Paramount with a steel crankset come up on ebay? The only '60s one I remember is cudak888's '62 Coppertone (which he has now switched to a Record).
