Lotus Road Bike...
Hey, a friend of mine gave me a road bike that belonged to one of his parents and was used to commute in college. I'm trying to ID it. It has Lotus badging and on the top tube it says 'Unique'. On the seat tube it reads 'Champion #5'. I will go and look at the bike later to find any other markings. Those are off of memory. It has a Shimano 600 group with Dia-Compe brakes. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I believe Champion #5 was a lower end, straight gauge, Tange tubing, but some of the Shimano 600 stuff was decent. Free always a good deal (unless it's Free Spirit), and pictures would help.
In any case, I'm sure it will be much nicer than what a couple of Franklin's would buy you in XMart

I will see if I can get some pictures up tomorrow. If I get a new camera for Christmas it will be alot easier ;-). If not, I'll take some lower quality ones with the webcam on my MacBook.

I've got an 86 Lotus Challanger (entry level). For an entry level bike, its has a nice double butted Tange chromoly frame. From the little I know about Lotus, the brand doesn't stike me as being anything special, but not inferior to other brands. Interesting, the bike was made in Japan while others were moving to Taiwan around this time.
