Gian Robert "Competition" derailleur.

I just saw a bike with this dérailleur and I 'm curious as to it's quality. I saw the info on CR, but it has no info regarding the "Competition". Do you guys know or seen it before? Any info is appreciated. I shall post pics tomorrow of it. It looks pretty nice for what it's worth.

it was a fairly cheap substitute for campy during the 80's. They work okay, but won't last as long as the real thing.

I've never heard of such a thing.

I bought a used bronze Record in the 80's for $10 because I couldn't afford a Nuovo Record at the time. I ended up making a killing on that derailer last year by selling it to a Japanese collector. I wish all of my investments would do that well.

That's good to hear. Well, I have the derailleur since I ended buying the bike it was on. It's an early sweet F.Moser. I've only seen the "Competition" seat post that's on CR and it looks like a SR. I'll post pics in a few.

Here are the pics of the dérailleur. So is this a rare one? It shifts really smooth and precise; just like the SR on the Merckx I have.

well, rare in the sense that most like it died an untimely death. This one looks like a simplex, or a simplex knockoff...

All I know is that they were Italian, not very common and probably no relation to Simplex. Have a look at this: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...obert_main.htm

OOPS! Just realized you mentioned the above (CR) in original post.

Lesser quality parts like Gian Robert are indeed less common because they aren't valued and kept. They aren't better quality than Campy, just less common. If you already have vintage bike(s) set up with Campy parts, you might find it fun to set up one up with vintage Italian non-Campy parts like Gian Robert, Ofmega, Gipiemme, etc. I'm doing that right now..........Peter

The bike this dérailleur is on is pretty much that; set up with all Italian non-campy parts. The front derailleur is a campy 980, the brakes are Modolo, 3TT stem and bars, the rest is Ofmega, including the hubs. The Bike is an F. Moser, but from just the components it must be a lower range model. BUT, it looks brand spanking new, as if never ridden. All parts are OG according to the seller. There is not a single chip on the paint and it rides beautifully. It's one good looking bike. The 25 Euros it cost me were well worth it. Here is a pic of the bike my daughter with our dog. I'll post better ones that show the actual bike soon.:D My daughter likes to take pictures of Azul (our dog) in front of anything. She took the pic while on my shoulders. Not bad for a soon to be three year old.
