Japanese steel

Been lurking in the C&V forum for a little while now and wanted to get my own little project going. I found this Panasonic DX-3000 for a reasonable price a month or two ago and finally got it on the road. This may rub some people here wrong, but I upgraded it from 7 speed to 9 speed and put on brifters. I actually had the 9 speed parts laying around from an upgrade to my main bike last year. The bike was in pretty good shape but needed a ton of touch ups to the paint. I haven't gotten the chance to put many rides on it yet, just some short rides to get everything dialed in. I am hoping to put a nice, long ride on it on New Year's day.

The Bumblebee! I remember it from long ago, not a bad bike at all. Nothing wrong with putting modern stuff on it. It should be a nice ride, it looks to be in very nice condition.

Hey RSJ, your bike looks good! Don't worry, we won't yell at you for going with brifters--it's your bike .

As long as you don't grind things off... !

Nice. There's alot to be said for equipping older steel frames with newer components. I don't think you'll get any flak from regulars here.

Enjoy.

I haven't seen many old frame/new wheel combinations that look good to me, but yours looks just right. Good job!

Thanks! I was pretty happy with the way the Mavics ended up looking. If I had my choice I would probably go with some open pros but since I already had them, it was an easy choice! The bike is a little heavy by current standards, but not too bad. I've heard all the "steal is real" stuff so I'm curious to see what I think about it after some longer rides. My other road bike is titanium, and I've ridden a lot of aluminum in the past so it should be interesting to see what my impressions are.
