Schwinn Superior?

A fellow just gave me his old Schwinn road bike. He says it is a Superior although that word appears nowhere on the frame that I can find. The serial number below the head badge reads GJ806795 which looks like no number that I can find on a Schwinn serial number chart that I googled. Anyone have any ideas on how to identify this one?

You have the last of the fillet brazed Schwinns built in 1976. https://www.geocities.com/sldatabook/...979traveleriii
Scroll to the Superior in 1976. They had odd serial numbers. They are great bikes! Nice gift.

When I go to the serial number page, it says GJ is 1973...am I reading it wrong?

I think it is definitely a 76..but the serial number baffles me...In any case, I'm looking forward to cleaning it up and riding it!

No. It seems that some of the early Superiors are '73 frame builds. My theory is that Schwinn was rotating out some of the back stock of Sports Tourer warranty frames at the time of the model change.

You are a very lucky man! Put on some new Kool Stop brake pads, read this post and enjoy your new ride ...

Bob, I meant to mention to you that the Superior that I bought off the Minneapolis Craigslist has badge #3408(late '78), but the frame serial # is MHxxxx...(December '72).

Wow! Wow! Wow! More pics, please!

Ooh! Still waiting for my free, fillet-brazed ship to come in.

just took the Schwinn out for a short ride...it needs quite a bit of cleaning and tweaking, but I really liked the ride even on that old seat...that's gotta go though! Ouch.

Do I see rivets in the picture? Is that a Brooks?

There's something about the geometry of Schwinn's fillet brazed frames which make them a joy to ride. I found a '71 Super Sport at the dump this summer, made it rideable, and was so pleasantly surprised by the ride.

If you need to find a new owner for the Brooks Saddle that appears to be on it, I'd like to be the first to que up in line to make an offer.
