Can I fix this nightmare.

So I posted a ton of pics of this bike in a post titled "txt". Because I am a moron and forgot to change the title. Look for it if you want to see 12 pics of the bike and parts. So here is a shorter one. If I buy the correct C-record rear derailleur and shifter will I be able to fix this travesty? Or did they peramanently screw the frame when they changed this over to 600 SIS?

Gee, my understanding of the time period is that would be considered an improvement.:D

Yeah...I actually did the exact same thing to my Raleigh I was riding at the time.. took Campy off to go to the 600 SIS.. but that was a Raleigh.. This is a Pinarello and demands Italian parts :)

You are NOT a moron; you've got the bike - OK!

Just looked at mine - what have they cut-off or

changed? If a 'stub', is still there, you may be able

to build up the square portion with epoxy.

Take a look, and a photo would help.

What is the problem? Are you looking to mount Campy downtube shifters, or brifters?

mrt10x 01-03-08 10:31 PM

I would like to replace the Shimano 600 with the C-Record downtube friction shifter it had originally. If you look at the front derailleur Campy shifter you can see a square tab that the shifter is attached to. The right shifter is mounted directly to the frame. I guess I am just wondering if that tab is underneath the fitted 600 mount? If I had the know how I suppose I could just pull the 600 shifter off and look.. guess I was looking for the easy way out :)

When I mounted cable stops to the bosses on my '84 Trek 760 last week, I noticed that one of them completely covered the boss down to the frame, and the other one left the base of the boss peeking out. I'd be quite surprised if the boss was removed from yours. I really don't see how the lever would be mounted without one. I've also come across bikes with Shimano levers on them, and they always seem to have neat fittings that cover all the way down to the tube.

It's all good. Just take the Shimano stuff off and put the Campy back on.

I think the Campy half is not mounted properly, from looking at your picture, but I'm seldom correct.

Lets see the rest of the pics, your other thread has been deleted ;)

actually the mods renamed it for me,, now called "proper campy derailleur"

OFG is correct. The Shimano backing completely covers a standard derailleur braze on. Remove it and install the Campag shifter you purchase. I see no problem with the currently mounted Campag shifter...it just does not look as neat.

'it just does not look as neat.'

Hey!

That's C-RECORD you are talking about!
(LOL)

those are syncro shifters, one of campy's attempts at indexing..
your original derailleur was a first generation c-record; not for indexing.

the original shifter was probably a c-record retrofriction type, basically identical to the front shift lever still on your bike

mrt10x 01-04-08 11:42 AM

Yup figured that out on google last night.. guess I will keep looking. Is Ebay the only source for C Record stuff? I cant find any real good sources in a google search.
