Looks nice! A good bike and project to finish off.
This might be worth a look over as it contains the period correct (74') brake components (Weinmann brakes and even levers w/extensions). That and a set of drop bars and extra brake goodies.

Possibly someone can enlighten me on a the Gazelle Grand Prix's as compared to the Nottingham-built bikes. I am a little fuzzy on the details ...
It's my understanding that Gazelle was contracted during the bike boom years (73-75) to augment their Nottngham Production.
- Was the same model built concurrently in two different factories? Or did production shift at some point?
- Also - what (if any) specifications differed between the two factories?

Thanks redneckwes, and gbalke.
That's a lovely '74, gbalke. Yours looks like it just rolled out of the factory!

Sadly I found a small crack forming on the chain stay of my 79 the other day. Had it since new and have put a lot of miles on it. I may be looking for another 25 1/2 inch frame.

^ I would be checking this out! ^
Sounds like a "flat tire" discount to me - and it's already upgraded with a set of alloy rims.

I just noticed that yours is a '79 so this one will be tad heavier, but still a very nice rider. (I wonder if it is a Canadian-built Raleigh, based on the earlier posts today).

Thanks auchencrow. The original owner deserves alot of the credit; he had it hanging in his garage for about twenty years. In fact it was his wife who sold me the bike, much to his displeasure! Not a bad deal for $50. I added the saddle, saddle bag and support and the water bottle mount to the front.

As I said, I was headed to Atlanta; had a Society of Manufacturing Engineers training session scheduled for Jan of 2009, so I asked the seller if either I or a friend of mine who lived close by could pick it up. He said Ok, so my buddy paid him and took it to his house and I retrieved it when my wife and I went to his house for dinner one night. So, no extra expense in getting that GP; mileage there and back, plus lodging and meals were paid for by the company I worked for at the time.

My Gazelle GP traveled from Kansas City to Ohio thanks to another BF member and a friend who works for a service company. Mine was a $50 ebay find.

Thats exactly my frame color and markings (and size). I think that is a little newer than 75, more a 78 or 79. Should be a nice bike when cleaned up.

We see a lot of Montreal Raleighs up here (Auchencrow). Usually you can tell by the the nice engraved "Raleigh" at the top of the seat stays. Also, the flat sheetmetal mount for the rear brakes seems to be typical. When Raleigh fell apart at the end of the 70s then US Raleigh and Raleigh Canada started to do their own thing.
Many have UK markings like the 20-30 decals but they aren't English bikes. Not special but they might be nice?
Regards,
David

Great job. The white saddle and bar tape look fantastic on your GP.
