Yes, I will be shining this one up for sure .

It's a beautiful sparkly green, although it doesn't look as if I'm going to have any sun for a couple of days so that I can catch it just right.

Witcomb UK? Masi? Eisentraut?

Whatever it is it's 1978-1983, but I'll put a friendly bet on '79-'81.

Nope, none of those. It is a definite 1977.

A very kind and generous giver indeed. As someone who's starting to put a N.Record group together himself I'll admit I'm a bit green with envy. Maybe not quite the color of the bike, but still.

Yes, this really was a gift. I'm still in shock, too. It's an incredible story.

Very likely could be a 1977, but I am not sure porta catena was introed that early I thought it was a 1978 or 79 thing? BB could be old stock. The parts that are Id'able are post CPSC namely the brakes and nuovo gran sport front derailleur which makes those parts '78 or later. Now typically you really need a pre CPSC derailleu to go with the pre CPSC cranks as the lip will hit in inside of the crank arm in order to get the chain on the big ring. so I am guessing the crank is '78 or later. Are you sure it's a '77 east hill?

Can't see the date code on the derailleur but it has post CPSC plastic guards on it, so even if it is coded earlyier it was more than likely assembled in 78 or later at the factory.

Frame was probably built 77, parts purchased and built up in 78?

EH - you know you're going to have to repeat this process when you get it cleaned up, right?

According to CampyOnly (which of course is NOT gospel) the Porta Catena was introduced in '79... that's pretty strong evidence for a post 78 production of the frame.

I was told that it is a 1977. I should be able to verify that with the builder.

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

Nice little bicycle. I guess they sent the seat to act as a protective device.

Is that from bbm?

I am glad everyone is enjoying the suspense .

Yes, I could possibly name the bike solveg.

It's not from bbm.

It's not a Washington State builder.

I can't reveal the full story until I have everyone's attention .

Trust me, it's worth the wait.

Well, it doesn't have to be a Washington builder. In fact, it probably is not* a Washington builder, since it was shipped. It would have been cheaper to hand it to EH in person.

It has to be something that made someone think strongly of East Hill. I know I'm always on the hunt for a teeny paramount for her.

The letters on the top of the box look like they say TOU.

One thing in favor of it being a Washington builder is that the box doesn't look like it traveled too far.

Edit: D'OH! All that brainwork and I was too slow posting!

No! You are going to hold out on us, but you said this bike is too big for you!? what gives. Are you a mystery novelist. You're good at building suspense.

It is a small bike .

TOU does not mean anything.

The bike travelled almost clear across the country. I was amazed that there was not a single ding or dent on the box when it arrived. It was almost as if the box got handled with velvet gloves .

No, this bike is a PERFECT FIT.

I am not a mystery novelist, but this is such a wonderful story that I think everyone will enjoy the buildup.
