My first post
Hello I am having a hard time moving on after the SB news
. But here I am, this is my 1st post on BF W/ pic. of a bike that I found at a thrift store for $20. I replaced pedals, (MKS 3000s) a crank arm w/SBs help, new tubes and an after market pump. It has scratches and dented mud guards and has is the coolest bike I've owned, it has an SW hub that has been trouble free (Knock on wood) since I bought it. Its still a work in progress. Needs appropriate grips badly.
Ok I can,t send pic. to big a file any suggestions?

Welcome I predict you will soon find a lot of discretionary income you didn't know you had to round up more vintage bikes. It is a sickness and oh yeah there is no cure so enjoy it
lots of good advice here and some good humored ribbing but we don't mess around when it comes to posting pictures cause if not East Hill will hunt you down and in all likelyhood take the pictures for you so you can post them.( good one huh EH?) We all mourn the passing of Sheldon Brown he had personally sent answered e-mail to about all of us at one time or another and if we had a question we would ask on the forum "Hey Sheldon help" Yeah no doubt about it he will be sorely missed.

I just go to Microsoft Office Picture Manager, then choose edit picture, and on the far right, choose "compress pictures". You then have the choice of size. I usually pick web picture size and it has worked here so far. Here's a pic of my just completed Salvation Army find.

There are two ways to include pictures:
1. the Manage Attachments feature allows you to upload the photo(s) directly, but the size of the attachment is limited to 100 Kb. I don't know how that works, really; compression must be involved, because sometimes I can upload a JPG that's somewhat larger than 100 Kb, and it still "comes in" under 100.
2. Put the photo somewhere else in cyberspace that has a URL that can be referenced (most people seem to use PhotoBucket, Flickr, or one of the other no-charge/low-charge image dumps online). Then use the little icon with the mountains and sun, yellow background. It will ask for the URL, which you just paste in. Then the whole photo will appear in the post inline, without a thumbnail. This is what most people do to include photos in posts, since the image is larger, and can be (it seems) any resolution you like. Only thing to watch out for is that if the photo is more than, say, 800 pixels wide, people with smaller screens won't fit the width. And another bad effect is that that the width of any image on a Bikeforums "page" of posts constols the width at which all posts on that whole "page" will wrap. This is annoying when some vanity photo takes over and makes it difficult to read all the other posts!
Have fun here, and welcome!

Good to re-size any photos if at all possible to 800x600 - or less (640x480 is usually plenty big). This really speeds up loading images (for those of us who sometimes get stuck using slower browsers), and is also simply convenient for viewing on the screen in the bikeforums. If you use a free web photo-hosting site as Charles Wahl mentioned, you can usually select different image sizes... click on the one best suited... then check that published images "properties" to copy the URL for that specific image and size... then you can either just post the URL or bracket the URL address between a simple format to show your photo at that image size in your Forums post.
