The picture isn't great but it look like a cartridge unit. Unless the cartridges are replaceable, which is impossible to tell from the photo, you will have to replace the whole unit.

further clarifying (maybe), if it is a Mavic cartridge bottom bracket, you'll have a lock ring on either side. If you remove both, it will not (most likely) be interested in coming out. My preferred method is to (gasp) thread a bolt back into the bottom bracket axle, and tap it out with a dead-blow hammer. There are no threads on a Mavic cartridge bottom bracket. If it turns out to be ruined, you can get another on eBay, or have a bike shop thread the bottom bracket shell for a conventional bottom bracket setup.

The bearings can be replaced on the 610. There's a special tool for removing the bearing covers on either side, but if you can figure out a way to remove them without it, you'll then hammer the axle out from one side. Get the bearing off the axle, and then use a drift, bar stock or something suitable to drive the other bearing out of the bottom bracket. Might be easiest to do this without removing the entire unit from the bike -- but be careful!
Apparently the replacement bearings are a size thats not so readily available anymore, but I've never tried to get them. Might be easier to source a replacement off eBay -- they don't sell for an unreasonable amount. Good luck.

thanks for all the help guys. glad to know that there is a way to do this i'll talk to the people at the shop and they are very experienced mechanics so hopefully one of them will not be afraid to try it out.
