C&V ebay question re: bar end shifters- STAT
The auction ends in less than an hour, but if anyone is burning time on a Sunday night and can help...
I am looking for bar end shifters for my commuter and want old friction on moustache bars. Anyone know if these will work with 8 or 9 speed and a triple up front?

Assuming they're pre-index (which I believe they are), you should be fine.

Yep, I'm pretty sure they are pre-index as well. I just wanted to be sure there would be enough travel to accomodate the situation.
Thanks. Now I don't have to blame myself alone.

they should work, though I would recommend suntour for their great ratcheting mechanism. PM me if you don't win these..

Yep, and I sent my wife your username.
And thanks cyclotoine. I may drop you a line (although I am trying to pull this together on the cheap).
Somewhat connected question since I need to be schooled a bit on friction shifting: I am wondering if an older SIS thumbie for a six speed would also work when on the friction setting (that is for an 8 or 9 speed cassette)? I am assuming at a certain point one would move out of lever action for a wider cassette. Right?
