Hidden bolt cranksets

I posed this question in the mechanics forum but as per usual I did not get any info I was looking for.

So who has used a non-record hidden bolt crankset... One that requires the nut part of the chainring bolt (unlike record - okay I got one useful piece of info but it still doesn't help me).. In what ways does this chainring (nut and/or bolt differ from the others?) Of course you must mount it backwards.... but to stop it from spinning it should be knurled... I could use one of my 2 precious campy pista knurled nuts but they leave a gap between the middle ring and the bolt because the nut part does not extend far enough... In anycase I can't seem to fit anything other than an SS nut in the there because the space it too tight (come-on sugino what were you thinking!? to much about weight savings I guess). I suspect a special bolt might be employed that is not threaded all the way and has a wider section near the head. I could file down a chainring bolt spacer to fit in the small ring I guess... or do you guys even think I need to worry about that since the other 5 are all taking the load... it's only one hole on the small ring afterall but I am a bit of a perfectionist and may suffer from paranoia.

What do ya'll think?
