I see Ziemas is tired of beating his head against the wall, so I will try.

Exactly what USPS office do you people go to? Seriously.

There are two possible customs forms, the only difference being one is a bigger piece of paper than the other. You fill in 3, again, 3 pieces of information.
1. Your address
2. The recipient address
3. What you are sending and its value, eg., vintage bicycle parts-$100

That's it, there is nothing more. I'm sorry to sound insulting, but how is that complicated? I mean aren't you writing the two addresses on the package in the first place? Or is the 2 minutes this requires too precious to loose?

All size, cost and timing information can be found at usps.com. You can be naked in the bathroom and fill out the form and print it along with postage and arrange a pick up. Is that convenient enough for you?

Again, exactly what is the major hassle over CONUS? It is just not there.

As for timing and cost, TELL the buyer before hand. All that information is online. You obviously know how to use a computer, its not a big leap. In all of my auctions I list the price for CONUS, Canada, Europe and Japan because it is easy to determine. So how do you get hammered on feedback if you state the shipping cost?

The arguements about returns can be handled by you won't take any and have good pictures in your auction, but that arguement is unrelated to shipping.

I buy from and sell to overseas eBayers and BF members frequently. It's not a big deal. The 1/2 hour line at the PO is true wherever you're trying to ship (as is the phenomenon that the longer the line, the fewer employees at the windows!). And as iab points out, the customs form, if you know you need to fill it out, is simple and easily done before you get to the USPS clerk. Even more interesting to me is that I often receive small parcels much more quickly from overseas (mostly western Europe) than I do from CONUS.

For an eBay auction, by opening up to more bidders, i.e., more competition, you increase the chances of the bid ending higher. That's certainly worth it in my view.

Well, I have to admit, besides the long line the worst part was being explained the history of international shipping by the mail guy, who I think was smitten with my great beauty. The entire time spent at the post office by the time I was done was about an HOUR!!!!!!!

I didn't know about all this printing labels out early stuff. I'm kind of a luddite when it comes to mail.

It sounds like you simply had a bad experience at the post office. It happens to all of us.

Here is an international customs declaration. They are the same the world over. As you can see there is very little info to fill in. The post office will tell you the final shipping weight, so you don't even need a scale.
