Here's the last teaser picture, the BB shell, which also took some dings in the fall and thus received the Dr.D gold touch. For those who have not followed this story, "Sporty" will receive a 3 piece BB adapter and a vintage Record crankset, along with just a few more Campy tidbits. :D

One day I hope to have a worthy bike and an ample bank account. Dr. D. You are a true artist and craftsman.
Pastor Bob, the big guy loves you :) |
That is a sweet looking bike!
I just can't help thinking that it needs a nicely tricked out Schwinn head badge. Maybe something with gold leaf. EDIT: No to the chrome cap. |
No cap.

Okay, I've sent Dr. Deltron a pm to end all pm's. I stated he could paint my Pinarello frame any way he liked if he agreed to take on the job. I pointed out that I like LOUD colors and BOLD styles on my bikes; like my Orbea Dauphine. Of course, I've given him the liberty to do as he chooses but I think he's not the type to paint a bike white and call it a day.
|
Wow, what classy look!
What is the actual color, as the lighting of the photos gives it different hues? Is it maroon, ruby red, something in between? . stan |
The the chrome cap looks as if it will be history.
I have played around with a few old head badges and Testors model paint, but so far they are not worthy. I do have a brand new original which will grace Sporty for the time being. |

It is called candy red because a clear red is sprayed over a silver base. But as you can see in the picture, it changes from red to pink to black. In the sunlight, it's burning candy crimson! And seeing as we are located at the same coordinates, you could come by & see it in person.;) PM me if you'd like. |
Darn, I just saw Bob's bike on the Schwinn forum and was hoping to get a 1940's Schwinn New World track restored.
Recommendations for any other painters that have this skill. Awesome work Mark!!! Wish I had known about you 2 years ago when I got this frame. Co Manager of Schwinn Collectors PS - I see my old friend Kurt (Cuda888) is on this post. Well, Kurt never got that Falcon San Remo as yet but did finally score a Paramount. |
Wow, that's hot!
 Definitely forget the cap. This one is going to be a rolling piece of art. |

Here's a close-up of the seat tube. If you remember, the frame fell and hit the floor and put a few dings, including the seat collar rim, thus the gold-leaf edging.
Nice. |
Divine intervention and gold leaf!?! Hah!
Now the challenge will be to use the stock seat post collar (which I modified with the allen screw and nut to clamp the seat post) and still show off that nice detail of his pointy gold leaf at the top of the seat tube. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...arTopAngle.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...CollarSide.jpg |
Is that collar steel or aluminum? If aluminum, you could anodize it gold to match. :)
|
Cold, hard, heavy, Schwinn chromed steel. I'm open to other suggestions. I don't really have any experiece outside of the Schwinn collars used on EF frames and the Super Sport/Tourer. Dr.D. is also working on an alternative collar.
|
OK, now that I see the collar in those GREAT pics, I think that one will be just fine!
Looks like it will fit between the filet braze & the gold leaf point perfectly! YAAAY! :D

East Hill took this picture last Friday on her way to CA. I can't resist posting it. Dr.Deltron is a blast to talk to on the phone. The other day we were talking about "Sporty" and lots of other bikes and my teenage daughter appears and pleads, "Come on Dad! You've been talking bikes for over an hour!" :o
Just look at that grin on his face! I think this tells the whole story. Thanks East Hill! :D http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...byEastHill.jpg |
That frame is a beautiful thing, Bob. Kudos to Dr. D. and ride it well.

Dr.Deltron is a big tease. He sends me an e-mail this morning, and his title reads "Nothing of Interest."
He then tells me how he had a B-Day party for his wife on Saturday, and had "Sporty" on display because some of his friends "don't get this whole bike painting stuff." And he attaches a few pictures. One to assure me the Chris King headset does work! Yeah! And this one with Mr. Crazy peeping in from the side! Enjoy. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...ingApr2108.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...rtyApr2108.jpg |
