Campy brake holders and Kool Stop pads
I'm a fan of Kool Stop pads, but I can't seem to find a set that will fit the holders below. Because they were fixed to a set of Athena calipers, I assumed the Kool Stop C89 version would fit (not too bright). Kool Stop sells a square version, but not a rounded version with the molded 'stops'.
There's no mention of a version to fit these on either Branford Bike or Kool Stop's website.

https://www.koolstop.com/brakes/index.php
Are these holders positioned somewhere between the tradition square holders and the redesigned 8 and 9 speed holders? Has anyone used Kool Stops successfully?
I'll add that the Campy pad pictured has a small chunk of aluminum embedded in the braking surface, part of the reason I prefer Kool Stops.

I'm not sure what year holders they are. I assumed they were early to mid-90s, because they were on some Athena calipers...but I think Athena was around for 7 speed, too, and the C89 Kool Stop are for the 8 and 9 speed holders, which I believe were a redesign.

I'll be watching this thread, as I could use a set of those pads, too. I cleaned up and filed the ones I have, but when the time comes that they have to be replaced, I'll probably just put on a set of Kool Stops with holders. I'll hate giving up those pretty chrome Campys, though.

Looks like you might be able to modify those pads to look like the Campagnolo originals? Maybe? Little messy, but a dremel could do the job I think.

Sorry, but they won't fit.
I have the same campagnolo brakepads (1992 Chorus) and the Koolstop pads are completly different. As far as I know, you can only use the Campagnolo pads in these holders, they are still avaible here in Holland.
If you want Koolstop pads, you can try these holders, but the slot in my brakes are to small.

If you're looking to use non-original holders for kool stop stopping power on older Campy brakes, I might suggest you try the cheaper Tektro / Cane Creek / Summit brand holders and the Kool Stop Dura-Ace style pads that fit them. I am using these on my late 80's Super Record brakes currently.

I just use standard salmon-colored holderless one-piece KoolStop pads in my Campagnolo brake calipers. They do not look as nice as the originals or the Shimanos I tried briefly, but at least the can stop me, unlike any others I have tried.

Do you have the url of a place in Holland that has these pads? I've got the same problem. My brakes are Campy Monoplanar brakes from, I believe the early 90's, that's when I bought them. Originally Monoplanar brakes were originally sold as part of the Chorus group, but they had moved them down the line, I think to Athena, by the time I bought mine. They have lighter springs than the really early Monoplanar brakes and work pretty well.
I was hoping the C89 pads would work, but it sounds like they won't. I've used Jagwire pads/holders. They're okay, but I don't think they're the same size as anybody else's holders. Lately, I've been using some Kool stop pads in them, I think they're for Campy 2000, but I could be wrong. I had to use a Dremel tool to grind the pads down to fit the Jagwire holder though, a real PITA.
I bought a set of the Kool Stop Shimano holders thinking they would allow me to use a wide variety of pads including Kool Stop, however the nuts on them is slightly too big .250" (6.35mm) to fit in the slots on my calipers which I measure at .242" (6.15mm). I could grind down the nuts or file open the slots. In theory I think that I should have enought material to grind down the nuts because the studs they thread onto are the same size as the bolts on the Jagwire holders. The bolts on the Jagwire holdersthread into a nut that fits inside the slot on my Campy calipers.

If so I could use Shimano, Swiss Stop, or Kool Stop pads (to fit Shimano holders) in them.
Anybody know if these will fit the slots on an early 90's Monoplanar brakes?
