Viner indentification help
I have a sweet Viner racing frame from the late 70's or early 80's which my wife is riding. The dacals are gone but the seat stays are cast with the Viner name at the top where they meet the seat tube. The lug work is top notch with cut out stars everywhere. We want to get it repainted over the winter but have no info on what model it is or what the original decals looked like. We would like to get the decals reproduced if we can figure out what they looked like. I anyone out there familar with Viner bikes. I know they were more on the budget end of race frames but this one is in great structural shape and is worth bringing back. Thanks,

It's probably a Stella Pro, thus the star cutouts. I think they were imported by Gus Betat. I bought a Campy NR equipped Stella Pro in the fall of 1983. The bike was electric blue in color and I raced it in my first year of USCF racing. Great riding bike, though the paint and decals were a little delicate.
BTW, Viner, if I recall correctly, was the combination of the builder's name, Viviano Nerrozzi. (sp?)

Trnstr,
I was quite baffled for a bit there, what does Viner
an Italian frame have to do with Stella Bikes (a french
frame), then remembered something, Doh! Stella Pro was
the model name.
Stella Pro's were 531 tubing, good bike for the money.
Gus Betat imported lots of them, most went unsold when
Gus Betat went under. There are still NOS viners out there but they are getting scarce.
Check with koolbikes or
Cyclart for decals.
A query to the classic Rendezvous list might get you photo's of
original bike and all transfers.

Thanks for the information, that is more than I could get directly from Viner. It looks like the decals were applied without a clear coat which jives with your experience. You don't happen to have an old photo of you bike? It is a great riding bike, and so light.

Glad to help,
The Pfieffers are great to deal with, getting a very
good rep with the vintage/classic folks.

Streetdog: I may actually have some Stella decals. I had a '70s Stella steel frame road bike (my first "good" 10-speed in college and similar to the Raleigh Grand Prix but much more beautiful...royal blue with gold lug trim) and somehow got some extra decals. If you're interested, I'll search for 'em and let you know. I've attached a picture of the bike with the decals.

imapls,
If you can find them easily that would be great. We put off re-painting the frame till this summer so your timing is opportune. Please let me know if you want anything for them.
Thanks,
Mark
