long spokes needed

Greetings all,

I am building a new wheelset for Capo #2, using the original Campagnolo Record high flange hubs and a pair of Nisi 27" clincher rims. The problem is that I need 305mm (drive side rear), 306mm (front), and 307mm (left side rear) spokes (yes, a full set of 305mm spokes should work) for my preferred historically correct 4X pattern, and most suppliers list nothing over 300mm. Before I simply give up and go 3X, does anyone know where I can find some long 14-15-14 gauge stainless spokes, preferably of DT or Wheelsmith quality?

Thanks and regards.

John, I know this is not a great deal of help, but maybe insightful. The three sets of 27" rims I've had laced to high flange hubs (Campagnolo Record, '62 Normandy, and mid '70s Schwinn Approved), my LBS had to use custom cut and threaded straight gauge spokes for both a 3X and a 4X pattern. Fortunately for me, they did not charge extra to cut and thread the spokes.

If memory serves me correctly, I was also in the 300-310mm range when I did my best to determine the spoke length (something I'm not that good at). I couldn't find these lengths as well. Maybe this is why the LBS had to cut mine.

Best of luck.

One of the best shops in Vancouver (IMHO) buys all their straight gauge spokes unthreaded. They have a DT cutting and threading machine... it's hand operated but works real nice. They cut and thread every spoke! I have stood there and waited while they did up my spokes I used to build my track wheels. I used straight gauge but now wish I used DB, oh well. Anyway, if you can find a shop that does that you might be in luck.

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

My LBS gets spokes over 300mm. I don't understand why you're coming up dry.

I only looked at the DT db spokes and there is no 306 but they have 305 and 307 and at only $0.49 a pop. Cambria Bike is the cheapest I have found online and quick to deliver.

Thanks, everyone, for the great leads. I think I'll pass on the Robergels, even though the price is right, because they are 15-16-15, which may be why the seller notes that they last less than 10k miles.

Yup -- I like the look and the fact the the torque spokes come almost tangentially off the hub.

Try Yellow Jersey - I just got some 14 gauge butted (is this 14-15-14?) stainless 305s there.

Thanks for the great leads, everyone. This thread provides a good list of online bike shops, some of which are new to me. I ended up buying about 100 spokes and nipples from one of our forum regulars. Now all I need are 72 small washers (probably from Home Depot) and new 7/16" and 1/4" ball bearings. Is Loose Screws the best source for bearings?

Got 'em! Thanks, everyone. I'll post pictures when I finish the build -- these wheels should be awesome.

I just recently bought some Grade 25 bearings pretty cheap from a guy on Ebay. I found him to be cheaper than the bike suppliers. He shipped pretty fast, too.

I've bought single-butted spokes cut to requested length from https://www.icyclesusa.com/ before, and I'm pretty sure they offer DT's cut to order up to 312mm or so, if I'm not mistaken.
