I have a turquise blue Murray Image. All the cabling is turquise blue and matches the frame. Unfortunately, the rear wheel is missing. I can't seem to find any info on the internet. Any info would be appreciated, i.e., year of manufacture, number of gears, etc.

I am in Lakewood, south of Tacoma. I usually ride bents. I have a few uprights, but lean toward the comfort side of things.

This appears to be a Murray made in South Korea. The emblem says Brentwood TN 1988

The Murray Company still exists! They did indeed used to make bicycles, although they seem to be strictly lawn care products now...

I just got a hand-me-down Murray "Image," and due to its search-engine-unfriendly name, I've basically found no info on the bike. Anyone have one of these babies? I'm just looking for some general information (as the OP here was). Mine is also a weird turquoise-blue with some pink triangles on the frame. Very 80s chic!

You can try, but if you look at the profiles of the people you want to have a conversation with, you will see they have not posted in years. You have a gas pipe Murray, with stamped out parts. Its a basic recreational level bike, ride it til it breaks, then look to move up some.

I have the ladies' version; it is also a weird turquoise blue frame with pink triangles, and has matching turquoise blue cable housing. It's a 10 speed with 26" wheels and 26 x 1 3/8 tires, downtube friction shifters, crank with outer chainring welded to it, Shimano components of some sort, and a frame without any braze-ons. What I'm really not sure of is whether the components indicate that it's an older bike...or just a pretty low end bike.

When I "rescued" this bike and started working on it, it was kind of a disaster...the chain was on incorrectly, and the cables were a complete mess. With a bit of time and creativity (and a few replaced components), it looks like it will make a pretty decent ride for somebody who needs low cost transportation. Still, all the bikes I work on are my babies, and I'm really curious about the age and quality of the bike, if nothing else.

No value except to you to ride it. Anytime I get one, I donate it to my Goodwill. I have one in the back of the truck to go to Goodwill right now (I paid $2.75 for it, I wanted the seat and grips).

Yeah, but you gotta admit, if you're a strong rider, like say, Robbie, It would be great to fix up that old Murray, show up at a club ride a blow off some new CF stuff.

Alright so to resurect this thread, I have some info. I too used to have this same Murray Image. It was my first ever road bike and now I ride a full carbon Specialized Tarmac. We all start somewhere, so this Murray has a special place in my heart. While it's true they don't hold much value, are heavy and low quality, you can still get creative with it.

It has a standard BSA 24tpi 68mm bottom bracket shell so modern bottom brackets and cranks will work. The headset is old school BMX 1" threaded, so if you replaced the headset you are somewhat limited. You can, however, change out the fork with any standard 1" threaded fork if you wanted to. If you really wanted to, you could probably build up a 26lb road bike with modern components on this frame if you really sank money into it and tried, but it would have to just be for the challenge and/or kicks and giggles.
