OK, here's my Nishiki, but I'm in dead serious negotiations with this -Joseph of this thread to trade those 7-sp Araya alloy wheelset to him so I can put his shiny wheels on it. It will have pink cables, bar tape, saddle, and white aero hoods (pink is very cheap on eBay). I haven't decided on the tires for those shiny hoops, but I'm leaning towards whitewalls.
Otherwise, I'd truly never ride it, so don't get on me about "travesties," etc. It was $35 on eBay, $41 shipping when gas was $2.40. By far, the most comfortable bike I've had, and a great trainer bike. Suddenly, the rear SIS began to shift on it's own, and I'm tired of dealing with it; plenty other bikes to ride.
This way, if -Joseph enjoys it, he'll be hooked, and addicts like company.....
He'll have the gears to tool that monster around, and I'll have a sellable ss for someone....
Not only that, the MTB version of the same bike has been on sale on eBay for a while.
The BIN of 99.99 has not been hit, but seller did turn down my 25.00, and 49.50, and 35.00. What perservance!

Did the deal. Joseph gets some skinny legs for his ride, minus the dork disc. Like roccobike says, he saves weight and the tires I'm including run at 100psi. I get some glossies, and will find some whitewalls.
Can anyone help him out of that anchor handlebar? I can't. If you look at the picture carefully, you'll see the rivets in mine. I had to cut it off, twist it out of the sleeve, then crush the sleeve to get it out.
I wish I still had my Technium, too.

My Nishiki is done, but I saved the very demonic 7-spd stuff and enough pink cable to go back geared.
As it is now, it's main rider likes it (she rode in one gear 99% of the time, anyway)
and a wheelset will be enroute to Joseph by Wednesday this week.
In keeping with C&V mindset I wanted to keep the geared possibility open, so no cutting, but at least this way it gets ridden....

I found this thread and thought I would post about my recent Nishiki purchase. About a month ago I picked up a Nishiki "Sport Series" that fits me perfectly (I am 5-7 with a 30" inseam) at a garage sale in my neighborhood for $5. The bike is in great shape - but it looks very dated because it is salmon pink and white with some aqua on the stickers! My girls think it is a girls bike - but after putting some new Serfas blackwall tires and a cheap computer on it I have been riding it and loving it. I believe the bike is 1988 or 1989 vintage?
It has a butted Cro-Mo frame, Shimano black plastic index shifters mounted to the stem, Shimano Light Action deraillers, DiaCompe brakes (with the secondary levers for the upper bars), Araya alloy rims with Joytech hubs, Vetta seat, Sugino VP double crankset, Champion alloy bars, etc.
I have dealt with several road bikes over the years - but this is the first one that actually fits me. I usually buy them cheap at garage sales, thrift stores, etc - and then resell on Craigslist. Anyway - is this a halfway decent bike to start with? I have been riding my MTN. bike on the roads for years and now that I have an actual road bike I am wondering why I didn't get one years ago! I know I could easily flip this one for $150-$200 on CL - should I do that and find something a little more high end (with downtube shifters and no death levers)?

Sounds like a nice low to mid range Nishiki. I would call it a gift for $5 and ride the heck out of it. If you can post some pictures. I know there was another one of these guys that has one that looks alot like that from the way you describe it. Good luck with it...
