Protocol??

I'm not the best at this computer thing (attachments, etc) but I would like to draw attention to an interesting matter that developed between another member and myself. Strictly for the sake of my education; possibly for broader benefit.

Scroll well down the page attached to see where the help is needed.

Thanks.

Usually if I offer parts for sale / trade, the first person who contacts me with interest gets dibs. I'll usually give them 24-48 hours to get back to me from that first contact to iron out details and such. The situation in the thread about the housing is fairly unique. Robbie has offered me many parts in the past (and fairly recently) in helping me in my projects. I have little doubt he meant no ill will to you, and didn't mean to leave you high and dry.

I'll weigh in first, at the risk of getting bitten.

First off, I think we really need a 'For Sale' section just for established C&V members.

To the point, though. I would say craigslist rules apply--first one with the cash gets it, unless a specific arrangement was made before hand.

I've had only positive exchanges with RobbieTunes as well. I'd chalk it up to 'honest mistake' (as he has explained in your other thread) and leave it at that.

Wouldn't that be against Bike Forums rules? I thought you could only offer things for sale in the For Sale forum.

Considering that Robbie replied specifically in YOUR thread, to YOU, I would say you had first dibs on the housing. It's not like he made an open "Colored housing for sale" thread in which it would be FC/FS. He targeted his response at you. Whether he MEANT to or not, that's another topic altogether. I'm sure it was an honest mistake and it is unfortunate.

I think you should have had dibs but as others are pointing out, I think it was just a misunderstanding. Don't let it sour you on the forum or our fellow member. Personally, if I post something saying I have some extra widgets, then it's first come, first served but if you post saying you need a widget and I say I have one then I would give you first shot before anyone else. I would appreciate if others did the same but it doesn't always happen for a variety of reasons.

Thanks, guys, for the helpful comments. As I told a buddy, it's nicer to spat over bikes than guns.

One last thing: Several are right about the number of threads this situation morphed into. As I said early on, I'm not that adept at this computer thingy and I wasn't sure how how to keep the discussion alive otherwise.

I'm done.
