May 3rd purchases...

May 3rd is the largest yard sale day of the year. It's after the government checks come out and before "the first Saturday night after government checks come out." In my area, there are several neighborhood yard sales, 2 church yard sales, and others all over the place. As for me, I'm giving away six dept store bikes at a church yard sale. First kid to look at the bike, then his/her mom, gets a bike, and so on.....

Hit this thread with a bargain (bike or part) you bought tomorrow......

Me, I'm going LP hunting.....Sinatra or Connie Francis.

Unless someone knocks me out - I'll be coming home tomorrow with a nice, well equipped LeJeune from the LBS's bike swap. Hopefully someone will buy my Miyata 210 there. I'll be flipping, or parting out the LeJeune btw. CV-6 will have dibs.

Interesting, We've already had our two big, spring weekends of community sales in the Cary/Apex area. In addition to a few non-descript hybrid and rigid fork MTB's, I found a nice steel framed TREK roadie, a 1982, 412 but it's too small for me. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I also found a $5 Peugeot Iseran with a bent derailer, and its exactly my size. I've replaced the derailer and will keep it for a beater. The best find was a low end Diamond Back MTB that had a beautiful, immaculate set of Ritchey Vantage mountain bike rims with Deore hubs, stainless spokes and an early, six speed, freehub/cassette. Why someone put them on a bargain basement DB mtb, I have no idea. I'm going to change the rear to a seven speed and mount the rims on my Nishiki Ariel build up.
Good luck to everyone going shopping tomorrow.

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

With the newly acquired Moto in the barn, two builds in progress, and no time to work over flip bikes I have to avert my eyes when I drive by yard sales.
This real job stuff sucks, even if it is working on bikes.

Couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on the LeJeune. It's a shame that it was neglected the way that it was. The thinning on the lugs is just amazing, but all the steel and chrome on it is on the edge of gone. Probably could get my money out of it and then some, but far more work than I'm willing to put into it.

What I did get:

1A Cinelli stem 115mm - $3.00
Specialized Stumpjumper (rigid) complete - $35.00
Karrimor large saddle bag - $5.00
Cannondale panniers - $15.00

Not so bad despite the mild disappointment.

Why I regret not having more $$$ to spend. There was a Gios Torino Professional 58 cm in excellent condition outfitted with Ultegra 8 speed - $250.00. That was gone really quickly.

Gios is pretty, but if you sweat on the paint, it starts to come off.

All six give-aways went very well. I decided to pick strawberries early, enroute to the farm, saw 4 bikes and a grille for sale in a yard. I just happened to have my bike rack,.....but they needed a lot more than my labor.

So with an empty giveaway stable, I'm collecting tires/tubes for the Durham NC man who gives them away 365.

Rained here in Puget Sound. I found nothing!

I wish I had more opportunities to find bikes here. Few at garage/yard sales. I do pretty well with parts at the bike swaps though.

I'd love to find some worthy of repairing and giving away, especially to kids.
