I listed a bike on CL last night, and got a flood of responses. One in particular stood out, and I just had to share it here. Check it out:

For some reason this reminds me of an occasion, while riding through a somewhat dubious neighborhood, when I was assured that if I got off my bike I'd be taken to paradise. I thought about explaining to the young woman that Nuovo Record with friction shifting was already paradise, but I chose instead to ride on.

You ought to try the Miami Craigslist, Bossman. I've sold many a bike to your "California Girl" descriptions

When you got it, you got it.

Yeah - well...... I'd really feel like a Dirty Old Man if I took pics of all the young women that pass through my portal of cycling bliss. That, and it would be kind of creepy, don'cha think? .

Suffice it to say I have witnesses.

Sounds creepy enough even without pics.

And your parakeet doesn't count as a witness.

Yup - the ole' Ball and Chain. But - Mrs. BBM is a fine figure of a woman, treats me decently, and lets me keep some of my money - so I'm good.

Yes - I sold the bike, but not to her.

Her inquiry came about an hour after another woman committed to coming by, and that woman bought the bike on sight. BUT...... all was not lost. Below is my reply to her, and now she's on the hook for that little black Peugeot I picked up yesterday.

Life Is Good.

--------------

XXXXX,

Your email brought a smile to my face - of all the responses, yours was by far the most original, articulate, creative, refreshing, and entertaing one I received. I only wish it had come an hour or two earlier, as the bike sold so fast it astounded me.

That's the bad news - it's gone. The good news is that I have another of the same size, a little black Peugeot. This Peugeot is actually a better bike than the one I just sold. It has Shimano indexed 6 speed shifting, and has a much better overall quality of parts. I need to give it a cleaning and tune-up, but I can have it ready to go in a day or two at most. If you're interested in this one, I'll not list it on CL and sell it directly to you for the same price as the bike I just sold.

Let me know if you're interested, and I'll get it ready to go ASAP.

Regards,

John
