singer model 1248
hello: i bought a bike from the good will about a year ago spotted it a mile away w/ campi & Phil wood comps. it had been repainted yellow with no badges to tell who built it. well last night after searching site after site to my surprise it's an Alex singer model# 1248 i was shocked! rides like a dream. but my question is, does any body know what the color scheme was for this bike as i would like to restore it.
Thanks in advance. jamess

You had one too many "http"s in your code and it should be in between the
But it's still not working. Judging by what come up in my post, there's a problem with the photo at the hosting site. Looks as though they're just thumbnails too. Try uploading them to a Flickr or similar account and post again.

a Singer at the Goodwill...that's...just..incredible...
I can't believe somebody donated that, but lucky you for bringing it out of the shadows. As for original color, check inside the BB shell and the steering column, especially under the crown race if you remove that. This sure is a prime candidate for a proper restoration. FWIW the only color I recall seeing one in is silver.

I asked the same thing (to myself). Would it be the cable hanger behind the seatpost?

goodwill singer
The lugs, mix of components, seat stays, but most of all the long " v " shaped rear brake cable harness. And a little help from the Sheldon Brown website. I guess every dog has his day. $20.00 out the door!

Bikes: I've lost count.

Hope you get lots of enjoyment out of it. What size is it? If it is surplus to your needs I'll gladly take it off your hands for you, and I'll even triple your investment.

Yes, that is a Singer. I think what you refer to as model# is most likely the serial#, stamped on the left rear dropout. Mine #1380 made in 1970.
Lugs and brazing of the dropouts are the same. The under the BB shift cables are the same seen here.

I have only seen just a few others, A. Singer is stamped into the top of the fork crown.

As far as colors, Red, Blue, Green, silver and White, but any color is possible as each is usually custom order.
I was 16 when I got it at a staggering $1200, then at the time the price of a Harley Davidson Sportster! It has been a good bike, never wanted anything else.

Thanks,
Don

Should be able to find some trace of the original color, could be some up in the steering tube. I cant see some previous owner hot dipping the frame and then rattle can the dreadful yellow.
I would contact Alex Singer and see what they can tell you.

If nothing else you could always try to match the trademark "Singer blue"
