I'm guessing this cut-up frame was used to display cranks? It appears most of the photos were shot with the object upside down.

Bikes: Chesini X-Uno, etc.....

That's a shame, is what it is.

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

schwinn used to have just such a display to educate new bikies in the finer points of shifting. Note that this has exactly the pieces needed for such a job. As I remember, they were chromed and the bottom piece (top in the photo) was mounted to a bench or display board.

The Schwinn displays were cut E/F frames with a Huret drive and Ashtabula crankset, mounted on a base just a few inches higher then the mag chainwheel - quite different then this.

I'm guessing it is the remains of a damaged frame.

Thanks.

To display shifting these days, handlebars would be needed to hold the brifters.

I also think it is probable that it started from a damaged frame.

BTW, the shop sticker says "B&J Bicycles" of San Antonio. There's a shop in that city with the same name, but appears to have a different address.
