The pic is a little "dark"!
About all I know about Takara is my brother has a late 60's 10 speed road bike.
Suntour stem shifters & cogs. 3 arm cottered crank.
He still rides it once/wk.
The owners manual is totally "generic" No brand name mentioned.

It is an unsaid rule of this forum that if you ask for assistance from the C&V crew that you do not keep it private, nor delete any information after the fact. Please post the "better" photos here.

Can't tell you anything about your cruiser, but Takara made low to mid level BMX bikes in the early 80s.

That's a cool find! I've never seen a Takara with that frame style, but there were plenty of American -made cruisers with similar frames. The folks at Ratrod Bikes forum might know more about it...

Very cool frame style. I could see it tarted up with some BMX cruiser bits.
Takaras were made by Kuwahara who apparently did not market their own brand in the U.S. ( I think a few snuk in from Canada tho'). They also made bikes for Schwinn, Apollo and a couple of others whose names escape me at the moment.
I found a Takara mountain bike from '83 or '84 that was pretty much a copy of the first Specilized Stumpjumpers. Lugged 4130 chromoly frame with a box crown fork, cast dropouts and a full compliment of braze-ons. I changed the bars to the "bull-moose" type and added a Brooks B-17 for a real blast from the past.
