Hatta swan Headset
Are these head sets any good? I really didn't think of them much as a fake Rossin has it and thought it was a cheapy Japanese brand....but a bike I just got with full super record has one also; that made think that maybe it not as "cheap" as I first thought. How do they compare to campy and shimano headsets? Did they make various models?

I did some searching and it seems that it's popular with the fixie guys. Still, I haven't seen any info on them.

I have one on my Zieleman and it's nice, well made. I'd say equal to a Record/Super Record
headset. Definitely a step up from a Tange Levin!
the only problem I have with mine is it loosens up more than I'm used to with my Campy headsets.

That's interesting to here that your Zieleman has one. It makes me think that here in Europe, Hatta head sets were/are popular since I've seen many bikes with these headsets. As I said before, the fake Rossin has one, an old Moser I sold had one, and the Colnago Super I just got has it too. All my bikes have been purchased here in Europe. Do you have a picture of the headset?
p.s Thanks for the star.

The Zieleman came with a campy headset. Ko Zieleman didn't particularly trust
or like the Japanese businessmen he met.
I put on the Hatta since I was building it with all Suntour Superbe components and
I happened to have it in my parts box.
I think they were a very good cost cutting measure, a lot of the Dutch bikes
I've seen have SR chainsets.
as for the star, thank you for donating!

HATTA Super Swan headsets are very nice! at least as good in quality as my other SunTour Superbe Pro headset. if it helps to compare by price Ben's Bike sells HSSHS for 135.00 new...

They're nice, but the NJS stamp increases the price sustantially. It's not worth a dime to me.

Could you enlighten me with what NJS is. Where would this stamp be and how does it look?

It means that the part is approved for racing on a Japanese track (Keirin). It has become a status symbol for the fixed gear crowd.
