Save your breath...the clown said he would not be back, but I bet is checking just to see what he has stirred up. So in that vein, I offer this. Just substitute forum for newsgroup....

Perhaps a bit of poetry will make you feel better;

????---this kind of illustrates the OP's point. Going a little too far here. |

(Also not sure how my comment goes "a little too far" but poetically giving him the finger apparently doesn't). |
As far as the answer to "Think I can get $400 for this?"
The answer is no longer opinion, but fact... No. He got close, and some of us are amazed at how close... but the answer is still no. The sense of humor here gets a little abrasive, especially when the topic is value of a bike, so perhaps we should work on that, but a sense of humor is something that is relevant mostly within a community, and is often not understood outside the community. Perhaps instead of using $3.50 for the value of a bike, and being labeled as prima donnas, we should have a default value of "$200 +/- $199" and let the reader make of it what they will. We'll all know the uselessness of it, while the reader will think they have an estimate, and they will have the only reasonable estimate based on the amount of information given. I think any of my estimates will be in the form of $xxx +/- $xxx-1 from now on... Since even knowing a bike will typically be worth $150, there will always be the time someone will find the model in pristine condition for $50, and other times people will buy a junker good only as a donor for $300. Just look at my hunt for a LeTour IV... I lost a bid on one on Ebay for about $200... then bought two of them from two different sources for about $100 combined. And from a value perspective, I would put them at about $100-$150 depending on condition if asked about the model here. So, $100 +/- $99 works perfectly. :) |

We've all made our points, the troll is gone. All we will achieve at this point is creating more hatred that will be ultimately unleashed on the next idiot. -Kurt |
I personally don't feel the need to defend my comments to the OP. I thought they were fair and not intended to offend. Although my $3.25 comment may have been a bit over the top. So for that I apologize.
I just can't see selling a bike that isn't mechanically perfect especially at the price he was asking. Spend a little more money and get the seatpost out, find the correct top tube cable guide and replace it. I get the impression the OP is not the patient type. Kurt, I agree. Time to let this one rest. Dan |
I concur.
