Shimano STI question?

I put a set of Shimano 600 brifters on my 600 equipped Waterford Paramount. I had a set of 105 brifters on it originally. The 105's were for a triple front, the 600's are for a double. I am finding it difficult to get it properly adjusted due to fairly short cable pull in the brifter. I found some instructions on the Park Tool site that helped, but the whole thing worked better with the triple brifter on the front rather than the double.

In perusing ebay, I found a listing for the same FD that I have that says it is not suitable for STI.

What I would like to know is what FD is suitable for STI if this particular model isn't.

Thanks! :D

I dont know of any older friction-based FD's that suit the brifter cable pulls. I had the same problem with a (somewhat lower spec) RX100 FD and a Sora brifter.

Read all about that here.

I suspect this may be the same thing in your case. The modern brifters just dont pull enough cable.

that derailleur works great with the 8 speed 600 brifters on my Austro Daimler Olympian!

I have it where it is working tolerably, though not where I would like it now. It feels like there is a fair amount of wear in the FD, though I have nothing to compare it against. I am thinking about buying another one that hopefully is in better shape.

Thanks for the link. It sounds like my problem-I must need a newer FD style.

The front derailleur in the listing you've posted mates with these STI shifters, which share a build date and a system serial number with said FD:

I have that same FD on my Vitus, with brifters, and it shifts just fine.

I did buy another FD last night, one that the seller said was brifter compatible. It was cheap, definitely worth a try or to keep as a spare if it is the same as mine.
