Caterham---Sorry to Disappoint

Caterham, I know I've always threatened to send you the Louison Bobet, but I traded it to redneckwes for a rattle can paint job on my Voyageur SP. I almost hated to see it go, cool triple crank, Christophe clips and Wright Saddle. Anyway, you won't have to worry about it showing up on your doorstep like an abandoned kitten in the night, unless redneck gets tired of it taking up space

Lol, before I knew what was going on, the Bobet and a battered Schwinn frame were stuffed in the back of the Cherokee.

Hey, I had already put it back on the hook, I should charge you for making me take it down again. LOL

I think I may have found the chain, a Sedis, haven't checked it to see if it's good or not. It'll be in the oil vat when I see you next.

Don't be so quick to judge.

Actually it is kinda neat, in a 'ticky tacky French way', as Caterham would say.

Now the search is on for some proper steel tube French style racks.

Velo Orange - he's making his own.

I like tacky old Frenchies like that - performance with dowdiness. I had a deprived childhood, you see, I got a Falcon early on instead of a UO-8 in the late '60s - a twisted view ever since.

Anyway, that one was too big for me.

Does anyone in the area have a cotter pin press? The Var tool? knowing where one of those can be borrowed makes a few more great old bikes accessible.

Yup, they are beautiful too, but sadly outside of my price range at the moment.

I may borrow the rack from the too small UE-8 in the basement. It's period, French, and the proper style.

What kind of crank is that? Are the spider and the right crank arm a single casting, or is the spider swaged onto the crank arm? It almost looks like the Magistroni that was on my '60s Rossignoli.

It's a pretty standard 60's Nervar, other than the third ring. The spider is swaged to the arm.

It made it to the workstand tonight, I think I'm going to do a quicky clean and build and see how it rides.
