Another Peugeot to ID!!
 

Hello All,

I'm adding this bike to the stable tonight and I'll get the serial numbers etc tomorrow. Can anyone tell what model it is from this picture. I'm thinking it's a lower end 1980ish model? But the I would have expected stem shifters on a low end 1980?

Circa 1980-1981 UO-10, I'd guess. This was still lugged and I believe had down tube shifters.

I guessed UO-10 but it does not have half chrome forks. So is there another model without chrome forks?

On further inspection the crank looks wrong, too.

Did they make an AO-10, perhaps?

In the early days of Peugeots lugless frame construction they lugged some of the larger frame sizes of the same model and slightly changed the model designation.

The OP's bike may be a lugged version of a lugless model. I'l look into it later.

I can't find any record of a AO-10 on the web. What about an AO-08 did they make those around 1980?

I would guess it is a 1980 UO8. It was available in red. That was the only year I can think of where it did not have half chrome forks. It may have been the last year the UO8 was made.

I have noticed that European models had down tube shifters after the US market models had gone to stem shifters. Also, I have a 1973 P8E that was bought over to the states from Europe and it has a low flange front hub where the similar US version had a high flange hub. Here is a photo of my 1980 UO18 ( mixte version of the UO8 ). The color, decals, etc. look identical,. The Rigida rims were both date coded 1980 and there is a paper tag under the bottom bracket identifying it as a UO18, 57 cm.

I am not sure, but I thought the U.S. version went back to downtube shifters at least briefly in the late 1970s, then back to those wretched stem shifters by 1980.

Ok I've picked it up and give it a quick clean. There are two numbers on the rear dropouts but nothing anywhere else. The numbers are LM2928 and 006934. The tubing sticker says 103 tubing made in Canada.

The downtube sticker says Record du Monde.

Still not idea how old it is I guess 1980 is about right. I'll post pics when I've done fixing it up.

Some Rigida rims have a date code to the right of the Rigida name in a small box with the last two digits of the year.

If you have Maillard hubs they will have a date stamp on them. Two sets of two digits. One is the year like "80" and the other is the week of the year in which they were made. Won't give you exact dating of the frame but will help.

Looking at the rims they are 1980 so I guess 80 or 81 for the frame. Anyone any idea what these 103 frames ride like? It feels light enough to me and the build seems better than the Raliegh I have.
