Friction Double on a Triple Setup

Friction Double on a Triple Setup
I havent tried this yet, maybe someone can tell me if I'll be waisting my time.
I was going to try and use a dura ace bar con in friction mode to shift an older shimano 600 friction front der that I believe was for a double. Actually, i have several deraillers to try this with but I believe they are all for doubles. A few generations of shimano 600, an rsx, and i'm sure some others.
Do they have enough wiggle room to shift the chain and not rub onto all three front chainrings? I'm asking about the derailler (which no matter how many times i look up I still cant spell), not the shifter.
I was thinking with some adjustment it was possible.
If not, does anyone have a front derailler for a triple they want to trade for?

My experience has been that sometimes a double front dérailleur will work fine with a triple. I always give it a try before looking around for a triple specific FD.
I'm presently using a SunTour Cyclone double FD to friction shift a triple setup (30-42-52) on a Trek 460. It has enough range and shifts as smooth as butter.

I'm using a Sun Tour Mountech front derailer with a Shimano BioPace triple crankset. Works perfect. I think it's a Cyclone with a slightly longer chain cage so the chain won't rub when on the small inner ring. I shift it with Campy down tube friction shifters.
