i know its not much to go on, but im willing to bet one of you knows. the rear derailer is shimano along with the shifters. just picked it up at a yard sale for $20. making it a single speed. the guy a bought it from says its mid seventies and the make starts with "M". it has been painted and and the manufacter name plate is gone. looks like the original color was red.

Motobecane? Mercier? Mercian?......But I'd think a Motobecane, but that's more intuition.
Does it speak french?

Scratch the paint off, for $20 you can't ruin the thing.

Nice looking cranks by the way, brand?

That crank looks just like the one on my Peugeot, which is labeled "Sakae CR."
