Team Miyata. ID this thingy

This is a NOS '90 Team Miyata I'm interested in. On the bottom of the downtube, there is a single screw. What is it for?

It's a number hanger braze-on to uh.....hang a number tag. Normally only team/pro bikes had them. Looks sweet!

Ah, I knew the one on the top tube is for a number. Didn't know about the bottom. Yes, it is sweet. It's calling my name.

It's for a landing light.

Nice frame, like the red/white paint scheme better, another recent post.

Those framesets retailed for around $1000 back in the day and were the pinnacle of Miyatas steel frames. I always looked forward to building them.

This braze-on is also present on the Miyata 1000LT touring bikes. I though it was for a third water bottle, but why only one? Now it's on the racing models so I can't say.

Oh man. I was just checking those out the other day on Ebay. Incredible frameset. If you do get it, are you going to build it up full Dura-Ace?

As stated by MiamiJim, the boss accepts the aluminum CO2 cartridge holder, which was very small, requiring only one boss. The adapter held two C02 cartridges. The boss was originally added for triathletes who do not race in large packs and do not have the luxury of outside support (i.e. wheel van) following them around, in the event of a flat. For triathletes (and ATB racers), CO2 cartridges are the most practical solution. They are much quicker than any pump, do not get knocked off like top tube mounted pumps, and do not occupy space for water bottles like seat or down tube mounted pumps.
