I know you are away 'till the 6th, but I thought you'd enjoy this photo when you get back.

Take care,

-Kurt

P.S.: Let me know what I owe you for shipping, and if you still need the 1R binder. I'll get a stem off the CR list for you.

Bikes: specialized crossroads hybrid 2006 Raleigh Cadent 2 1971 Schwinn Varsity, 1972 Schwinn Continental, 1977 Schwinn Volare (frame)

Did you just have that frame chromed? I never heard of a chrome Continental its nice to know someone else spends obscene amounts of money on an old Continental, I love it can't wait to see the finished build

No, found three of these chromed 1980 Continentals in the back of the LBS, along with all the toasted conventional Varsity frames. Appears to be factory chrome jobs:

For better or worse, Schwinn's built-in kickstand mounting apparatus. Also serves as a pseudo-chainstay bridge.

Housing for Chromed Hi-Ten Micro-Rocket Launcher; also serves as stay bridge.

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

That looks very clean. Build it up with red cable housings.

1980 - all three of them. One is three months apart from the other, the two remaining are only 300 serials apart.

Doubt if they are in the catalog. I've also heard that the 22" ladies' frame was discontinued in '81 as well - have yet to look at the catalogs and confirm any of this.

Sorry, silver/grey (as always on my builds) when it is a Schwinn. Black cables would compliment the headbadge though.

WOW! Glad I could help out with the build! I'll keep my eyes peeled for more Schwinn chrome bits!

What are you running for the RD and FD?

FD is the run-of-the-mill rebadged Huret used on the Continentals, while the rear is what I believe is a later model of the Alivit, as used on the late '70s/early '80s Continentals and Varsities. Forgot which Schwinn "GT" model it is.

Those frames are incredibly unique. When will we get the chance to see one built up... completely.

Once I have the three Craigslist bikes in my repair shop taken care of, and the rest of the parts procured.

One of the other members said he might have another Continental II chrome donor fork, but college has been taking up most of his time so far - might have to wait a bit.

Out of curiosity, what is the proper steerer tube length needed for those frames?

Don't recall - I'll check today if I remember. It's the size used on the 22" frames, and all of the ladies' frames - Schwinn standardized the size on both for ease of replacement, I gather.
