Schwinn Frame Identification Help Needed
This is a 27" frame ten speed. I bought used 16 years ago and am painting it for the second time. Now, however, I am interested in figuring out just what it's pedigree is. All I know is it's really light for it's size and I love it. See pics for the clues. any help is welcome.
Thanks!
Chris.

Is it "IA" or "1A"? If 1A11452, the frame was made and the bike assembled in either January, 1981 or January, 1991. Normally, the decade is determined by the decals on the frame and the components, but that doesn't seem possible because of the repaint and lack of components. The head badge number (0191) indicates the bike was assembled on the 19th day of a year ending in 1; either 1981 or 1991. The fact that the rear dropouts are stamped and not forged says it's not a high end frame.
You can browse the 1981 catalog starting HERE and the 1991 catalog starting HERE.

I would say so too, from that picture

i jam my thumbs up and back into the tubes. this way i can point my fingers straight out in front to split the wind and attain an even more aero profile, and the usual fixed gear - zen - connectedness feeling through the drivetrain is multiplied ten fold because my thumbs become one with the tubing.
