BRIDGESTONE 300: Help!!! :)

What I do know: Dynasty Rose, 1985 or 1986, often referred to as a "cult" bike, all parts look original

Hello, I would just like to collect any and all information possible about the Bridgestone 300. Feel free to post your brains out!

If you would like a little back story please read the following: Last summer I received this bike as a gift from my neighbor. We were discussing our love for riding and I mentioned that I wanted a road bike (was currently riding a Hybrid) but couldn't afford one. Apparently, he frequently picked up old busted bikes at a junk yard to tinker with, and he gave me the 300 (it needed work). WOW, AWESOME! Definitely took him out for beer that night

Well, one very, very BUSY year later I was fitted to a Trek WSD 2.1 and the 'ol Bridgestone remaines tireless with busted petals, etc. It just sits in my Art Studio looking badass.

The time has come to bring this old girl to life! I'd really like to get her in full working order and make a beautiful project out of her. She might be a bit large for me to do any serious riding, but that is what the 2.1 is for I won't know until I get her measured and examined in the shop.

BUT, I want to go into the shop knowing what I am talking about! So please, anything you have to say, post it! The good, the bad, the ugly...

THANK YOU,

Liz

EDIT: after examining the handle bars in the catalog I am almost positive this is an '85. Neato, that is the year my little sister was born!

Bikes: 1986 Bridgestone 500, 1981 Motobecane Super Mirage

The 300 was a lower end model with straight-guage tubing and 27" wheels. In rideable condition it's a fine, comfortable bike, but isn't collectible and not worth heroic amounts of money to get it on the road. Check out the catalogs to see what year yours is.

Pics would be great. I ride an '86 500 and really enjoy it.

Post a picture or two. I have a Bridgestone 300 Mixte, in what looks like a dusty rose color, that I intend to rebuild. Wondering if what you have looks like what I have.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'm sure it isn't a collector's item and I don't have a lot of money to dump into it anyway. Regardless, I am excited to individualize the heck out of it (I'm an artist, what do you expect ) and use it to cruise around town.

I'd love to post pics but I'm studying about 2 hours away from home until Sunday :/ Will do when I return!

LOVE my 300!

Picked up a 300 at a Salvation Army in down-in-the-mouth Laurel Maryland about 5 or so years ago for $50. It must have been sitting in a garage for decades because it was nearly new and rust free. It's a wonderful bike that I've ridden many times ever since. No clue why this would be thought of as a low end bike--I've had a great time cruising all the bike paths in Columbia with it with no problems.

Back in 2005, I found an abandoned Bridgestone 300 in Baltimore, outside where I worked (near Camden Yards). I salvaged it and rehabbed it (see photo), converting it into a fixed gear. I've been riding it for the past 4 years now. I commuted on it to work through downtown Baltimore, rode it in a metric century, and have now ridden it in the mountainous terrain of east TN. It's been a great bike. Very solid. It is a bit on the heavy side, due to straight gauge tubing, and came with lower end components. Also, the top tube is a bit short for me, making the bike feel a little cramped. Still, I've really enjoyed riding it and now keep it as a beater.

Also attached is a catalog page for the 1987 Bridgestone 300, which shows what my bike looked like before I had it sandblasted and powdercoated.

Good luck fixing yours up. That's the funnest part.

VERY nice job with the restoration, DPayne! And after thinking about it, I realized that my 300 is not a bike you're win races with so it's not top end/classic. Somehow that thought came as quite a shock, actually--all these years of cruising and enjoying the ride and related health benefits make my bike a slice of heaven on earth for me. It never occurred to me that I'd want anything else out of my bike...
