Raleigh frame question

I'm looking for pics of the right hand side of a naked 70's raleigh frame. I want to compare it to mine...

I got the cranks off my early 70's super course and I noticed on the Right Hand side chainstay there is a rather large indentation (I'd call it roughly thumb sized) about an inch back from the BB. I'm really hoping this is a feature and not a problem. There's no way I could have seen it with the cranks on, and to be honest I don't know how anyone could have formed such a perfect indentation at all, let alone with the cranks and chainrings in the way.

please tell me this is supposed to be there.

Might be there to allow clearance for the chainring.

It's fairly common to dimple that chainstay for more clearance. Best when done at the factory, though on one of my bikes some gorilla did it himself with a hammer or a rock, given the final result.
